When society is flooded with crime an unarmed populace will submit to the rule of law all their natural rights in the pursuit of safety regardless of the long term consequences. This is how protection rackets operate and it’s coming to a city near you.
We’re calling for an immediate moratorium on NYPD arrests. “We are in the midst of a pandemic and our last priority should be to cycle New Yorkers through our broken criminal justice system, separated from their families, communities, and quality services.” More:

Yeah actually boomers can win. My dad was a wonderful father and so I moved to be close and care for him in his last years. No house selling, no Star Wars named nurses. Nothing lost nothing regretted. Maybe it’s you
Boomers just can't win. All the world's problems are apparently our fault. First, Millenials and Gen Z are pissed because some Boomers are still working. They think Boomers are taking "their" jobs. Doubtful. The oldest Boomers are 80 yrs old/the youngest 62. They're mad because we are keeping our homes. We can't afford to sell them and buy more expensive homes. Many of us are aging in place and will sell when it's time to move to a care facility and we will need to money to pay for it...Unless you plan on taking care of your parents, and I sincerely doubt that will happen. They're mad because we aren't dying off fast enough. We will. Sorry you're in a hurry. Now, they're mad because we are collecting Social Security and the program will run out of money. Hey, it will affect us far more than you. You've got years in front of you to save but we're here in the thick of it. Some people never had huge paychecks while working and now just live on their social security. Millions of seniors will be homeless and without healthcare if that happens.

I wish Dad was here to see this. He loved ranting about Adobe and MSword becoming subscriptions
This is the doom I predicted a few days ago, coming for Photoshop. A clean-room open-source reimplementation. No prizes for guessing that they decompiled Photoshop to source code, processed that to some kind of non-code specification language, then fed the spec to an LLM with an instruction to generate Rust. Adobe just got nuked. And closed source is dead, dead, dead. github.com/storytold/photocr…

Wait we were using taxpayer money to help spread AIDS in Africa?
🇰🇪 🇺🇸 HIV deaths on the rise in Kenya since US aid cuts At least 24 HIV-positive sex workers in Kenya have died since aid was slashed by the United States in early 2025, despite being in good health until then. The US has long been the biggest donor to Kenya's health system, but the Trump administration has restructured support away from NGOs, and passed rules to prevent them promoting issues it opposes

America was a blank canvas for centuries. You had the option to do what you were actually good at because someone somewhere needed that skill even if your town didn’t. The old world was already staffed up so to speak
“You don’t study for the spelling bee” is a deep and important aspect of American culture. I was at a baseball game discussing some young players with a buddy one time and he said to me offhandedly, “hard work is fine, but nothing beats talent.” Americans have this sort of sense that there’s something a little off about working really hard to get good at something that you’re not naturally good at. You’re never really going to be on the same level as the guy who has a natural talent. We have room in our hearts for scrappy little guys who work hard, but we are by default suspicious of grinders and strivers. If you were really meant to do it, then you’d be naturally good at it. You sign your kids up for little league, but you don’t take it too seriously unless they show remarkable early talent. Yes, this sounds sort of ridiculous if you take it too literally. No, nobody is saying that there’s any kind of practical test for this or that anybody should be excluded because we found out that they secretly studied too hard. But this is a part of American culture. And if you can’t understand it, then that just marks you out as foreign to that culture to an even greater degree.

Seems a little inefficient
🚨 THIS ISN’T A ROCKET. IT’S A MOBILE UAV CATAPULT. A multi-wheeled rail launcher with a large compressed-air tank just accelerated a fixed-wing drone to flight speed in the desert, no runway needed. The dark object falling away is the launch sled. The air reservoir delivers a controlled burst that gets the aircraft airborne in seconds while keeping g-forces low enough to protect the airframe and payload. Runway-independent fixed-wing ops, anywhere. ⚙️
