What we have seen in Frederick over the past several days is deeply concerning. No family should be afraid to leave their home or feel unsafe in their own neighborhood. The safety and well-being of our residents must come first. My office has been closely monitoring the situation, and I have been in direct contact with local elected officials and community leaders to hear about what occurred and the concerns residents have raised. I have also been in communication with Frederick’s mayor and public safety officials to discuss the situation and determine what additional steps are needed. I am especially disturbed by reports that ICE agents used force against Frederick residents. These allegations demand immediate answers and a full, transparent investigation. Federal law enforcement has a responsibility to carry out its duties lawfully and safely—and the Frederick community deserves transparency and answers. I will continue working proactively with local leaders, law enforcement, and community organizations to get those answers and ensure the safety of Frederick residents remains our top priority. I've said it before: the FCC doesn't get to decide which jokes, anchors, or newsrooms stay on the air. Now 18 former FCC officials from both parties are saying it in federal court.

CNN, Politico, and MS NOW aren’t the problem. The problem is a president who can’t handle tough questions. Americans want answers. A free press holds power accountable, keeps information flowing freely, and our democracy depends on it.

This is an outrageous attack on freedom of the press. Trump cannot ban news organizations from the White House simply because he dislikes their reporting. That is authoritarian, un-American, and an attack on the First Amendment. A free press is not optional. It is essential to our democracy.

While Rep. Norman, a Freedom Caucus member, and I don’t often see “eye to eye”, I completely agree with him about the GOP’s horrific abdication of its congressional duties by canceling votes for the rest of September. We have so much to do on AI guardrails, making America more affordable, stopping corruption, helping our farmers and small businesses, and ending this war.

President Trump has repeatedly blocked defense assistance to Ukraine while cozying up to Putin and his allies. I will always support holding Putin and his regime of oligarchs accountable for their illegal and unwarranted war in Ukraine. However, I cannot vote for a bill that hands President Trump broad power to levy tariffs against our major trading partners without assurances that he will enforce the sanctions. At a time when his trade wars are already driving up prices for families, giving him even greater tariff authority risks making everyday life more expensive. I voted NO because life is already unaffordable for Americans across the country. We should be strengthening our support for Ukraine and holding Putin accountable, not handing President Trump another bill to escalate tariff-driven trade wars and drive up everyday costs.”

Promises made. Promises broken. Republicans promised to lower costs. Instead, families are struggling to afford child care, farmers are being squeezed by tariffs, and working Americans are still having trouble making ends meet. A special way to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month! Last night, I joined friends and colleagues to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. It was especially meaningful to meet constituents from MD-06 and celebrate alongside Latino leaders like @RepDarrenSoto . This month, we honor the generations of Latinos whose culture, leadership, and contributions continue to strengthen Maryland and our country.

A victory! Trump tried to rewrite our election rules at the eleventh hour and make it harder for Americans to vote. It was an outrageous abuse of power, and the Supreme Court was right to stop him. Twenty-five years ago, September 11th began as one of the most beautiful fall days I can remember, with a crystal blue sky and not a cloud in sight. Then, everything changed. Today at Fort Detrick, I joined our military personnel, first responders, and community leaders to remember those we lost and honor those who ran toward danger while the rest of us reached for our phones. The heroes of September 11th showed us what courage, service, and unity truly look like. We will never forget them or the families who carry their loss every day. May their memories be a blessing.
