I introduced the Blue Collar Social Security Fairness Act to allow Americans in physically demanding jobs to receive their full Social Security retirement benefits at age 60. If you put in the work, you deserve the retirement you earned.

After more than five years wrongfully detained in Russia, Paul Whelan came home to a life he no longer recognized. Our responsibility to Americans wrongfully detained abroad cannot end the moment they return home. That's why our bill is so important--for Paul and all the other Americans who have suffered wrongful detention.

American scholar Min Zin has been wrongfully detained by the Chinese Communist Party since June. This week I was honored to meet his incredible wife Sylvia who, despite her pain and despair, came to Washington to advocate for her beloved husband’s release. This is why I co-chair the Congressional hostage and wrongful detainee task force with Rep. French Hill. Together, we have changed American law to support families like the Zins to come to Washington, testify before Congress, and work with other federal agencies to push for Min’s release. If China does not release Min then America may have to change the travel advisory warning for U.S citizens and designate China as a sponsor of wrongful detention.

I am introducing the Paul Whelan Hostage Compensation and Reintegration Act — named for my constituent Paul Whelan — to provide financial support to Americans returning home after unlawful or wrongful detention abroad. We fought to bring Paul home. Now, we must make sure Americans like him have the support they need to rebuild their lives.
