Calif effectively closed two refineries that produced a substantial volume of JetA, the fuel that powers most U.S. military equipment across all branches. That's all the justification POTUS needs.

The private energy industry cannot get the permits to build anything these days in blue states. Trump would need to invoke the Defense Production Act to get that done. And that might in fact be a better vehicle than just having the DOE try to do it themselves. This would also blow away permitting stonewalling from places like New York, New Jersey, California, Illinois, and Massachusetts.

I expect nothing left from a well trained CIA analyst.
Elissa Slotkin is attempting to flip the script and cry victim after pushback on her lawfare threats: "The goal is to intimidate....these are authoritarian tactics." Projection and deflection levels here are stratospheric.

Make NO mistake: Democrats’ crusade of retribution won’t stop with the President or his Cabinet. They’re coming after YOU. Everyday Americans. Ordinary conservatives. You don’t need a title to become a target. You just need to disagree.

Um, this is really bad. I'm a little shocked to be the one to inform you, and that takes a lot. That said, dear Senator @JohnCornyn, Ukraine has never had Starshield satellite communications. EVER! Starshield is a U.S. military communications network that is not shared with Ukraine due to the implications therein. Giving Starshield to Ukraine would be akin to the United States openly operating the targeting system against a nuclear armed Russia. Surely, as a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and a long-time tenured member of the Republican Senatorial Leadership team, you must know this. If you are unaware, and if your staff team would stand back and watch you send this public message via this platform, perhaps you might think about the implications about your lack of knowledge as you clean out your office for private life. Seriously, I'm a little shocked and doubt I'm alone. It takes a lot to shock us now.
Recent reports on Starshield satellite communication disruptions in Ukraine raise serious concerns and must be investigated.   I joined @SenatorShaheen, @SenThomTillis, and six of our Senate colleagues in calling for the @DeptofWar Inspector General to determine what happened with this critical capability and protect American personnel. It remains in our national interest to help Ukraine defend itself from Putin’s aggression.

. @SenBlumenthal, when Biden’s Treasury Department granted exemptions in 2024 allowing certain Russian oil transactions and dealings involving Gazprombank, was Biden sucking up to Putin, too? Or were those exemptions justified by energy security? Your words: “nothing to do with our national security.” Does that standard apply to Biden, or just Trump?
Donald Trump confirms again that he stands on the side of a bloodthirsty thug & the enablers of Russia’s war machine & against the majority of Americans, their representatives in both houses of Congress, & our European allies. 1/ apnews.com/article/russia-sa…

Thankfully Judge Reyes backed off this request at least. For those wondering, a common reason high level DOJ appointees sometimes signs briefs boils down to good leadership. If there is something that is likely to be contentious with a judge, a DOJ leader signs their name on the brief so that any issues someone has with the brief is directed at them rather than lower level attorneys. Regardless, it goes without saying that a decision such as this should not be something a judge is inquiring into.
Just now: Judge Reyes withdraws her request for DOJ to re-file yesterday's submission with any other DOJ attorneys who are willing to sign it. Reyes says she made decision after thinking about it more, consulting with her clerks.

Exactly. This motion was on behalf of DOJ collectively, and leadership stepped up to deal with it. There might be fallout over the contents with other Judges in the Court.
Also, there are good and commendable reasons why DoJ leadership might decline to have career attorneys sign something like a recusal motion. It burns a lot of bridges even in the best case, and it is good if leadership is willing to take the heat for their subordinates.

“I don’t think that’s an appropriate action, your honor,” Woodward said, declaring that such a demand would put those lawyers “in an incredibly untenable” situation. “I don’t care what you think,” the judge told Woodward, before walking back the barb. "before walking back the barb." And that is the crux of the problem with Judge Reyes - something I witnessed first hand in the months after she first assumed the position of District Judge. She doesn't have a filter between her brain and her mouth. She blurts out thoughts without first considering whether giving voice to those thoughts is a wise idea. She has personalized this case into a battle of the Admin v. her authority -- she's made it about herself.

Audio line still cut.
Judge Reyes is in the process of going to war with the DOJ over their squirrelly/dishonest filings in the East Potomac golf course case. She is pushing DOJ lawyer into the corner and then pushing more. There's an acrid scent of contempt and Rule 11 in the courtroom.

Judge Reyes cut the public audio access line so none of the hearing could be covered outside of the courtroom. “I don’t think that’s an appropriate action, your honor,” Woodward said, declaring that such a demand would put those lawyers “in an incredibly untenable” situation. “I don’t care what you think,” the judge told Woodward, before walking back the barb. I will order the transcript.

Roger Parloff has a fuller account of this exchange over the signing of Woodward's recusal motion, and her "Order" under Rule 11 that DOJ attorneys come to the podium and state whether they would sign the brief. I don't know if her point was that DOJ attorneys who have been on the court do not think she has been biased -- her Order last night recounted complimentary comments she made about DOJ's work in this case in the past -- or for some other reason. But to mention Rule 11 with such a demand -- a "lose-lose" dilemma being sanctioned by her or defying the DOJ superior in Woodward -- will likely end up in a Petition for Mandamus that she recuse herself before the end of the week. Completely beyond the pale for a federal judge to adopt that posture because she is angry in response to a co-equal branch of government perfectly acceptable motion under a statute passed by Congress.

REYES is on the bench. Trump personally attacked her this morning on Truth Social. Reyes begins by asking whether any DOJ attorneys in the room are willing to sign the brief that Stanley Woodward filed on DOJ's behalf last night. This is getting testy fast. Woodward says he is instructing them not to answer. REYES says she's giving them an order. Woodward says this is untenable. Reyes gives him until 3pm to file a brief explaining why she can't ask other DOJ attorneys who is willing to sign the brief.

Are you under the impression that any entry in the docket of this case suggested that the Judge was favorably disposed to the position of the Govt? She's been reversed by SCOTUS twice already for blocking Trump Admin. changes in policy. Impressive for only 3 years on the bench.
There are few things that will prove more persuasive to a judge than calling her "histrionic."

Senator, you told us and other young conservatives to fear encountering “a ton of problems” from Democrat political persecution of Trump admin staff if we serve. Your Bolshevik-style tactics invalidate your attempt to play the victim, and your despicable threats won’t deter us.
Spare me the pearl-clutching — especially from Republican Members of Congress and online MAGA grifters who have cheered President Trump's weaponization of the government against those he doesn’t like, as recently as last week. This is a subject I know something about: Less than a year ago, Trump directed the DOJ and FBI to investigate me, and then tried to criminally indict me for a 90 second video, exercising basic free speech. The same free speech you’re exercising now, lying about what I said in this clip. If not for an anonymous group of grand jury members standing up for America's laws, I’d be criminally indicted for sedition. President Trump has turned the government against people, with raucous support from you and virtually all D.C. Republicans. So spare us the manufactured outrage. America must be a place where the rule of law still matters. Those laws should apply to everyone equally. If you have aided in the corrupt use of U.S. taxpayer dollars to benefit the President or his family, or you have violated the law in order to carry out guidance from the President, you should be held accountable. And given how rampant that corruption appears to the average American, people looking to work for his Administration should realize that while the Supreme Court has granted the President immunity, it has not done the same for those who do illegal things at his behest.

"State audits" -- LMFAO. What a self-own by 60 Minutes -- or a reflection of the dumbest people in media. THE STATES ARE SANCTIONING IT!!!!!
Voter rolls are maintained by the states, but the federal government under President Trump has made preventing noncitizen voting a priority. State audits have shown that noncitizen voting is extremely rare, though it does happen. In Utah, Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson found a total of 52 noncitizens and likely noncitizens out of more than 2 million voters. That’s about 0.002%. A top Justice Department official told 60 Minutes: “We've had investigations ongoing for over a year [into cases of noncitizen voting], and it takes time. There are literally thousands of them out there that we are looking at.” cbsn.ws/4i55KFD
