Adam Neumann on why top-down management fails with great talent: "Top to bottom means you think because someone reports in to you, they have to do what you say." "But it's not true. This is not a dictatorship. They have free will." "If you hired someone, they're really talented, they'll go work elsewhere. The more talented they are, the more the top to bottom does not work. They won't be willing to do it. They shouldn't." "Great talent is not willing to be managed like this." "If you're gonna manage these employees and you wanna attract the best talent in the world, remember that power comes from influence, not control." "If you think they need to do what you said because you're their boss, you've already lost, and it's a matter of time till it doesn't work out. If they're okay with it... they're not the right employee for you, and you're not the right boss for them. There's no chance you're getting the best out of them." @AdamNeumann w/ @StevenBartlett

So we all agree the AdvertisingWeek venue is gross. What are some of your favorite spots for meetings near the venue? Coffee shops, restaurants, bars.

Do you see a pattern here? This is what the NFL gives up by pushing more games to streaming: Absolute dominance of the airwaves. They're happy to cash those one-off streaming checks, but games on network TV won't be going away anytime soon.

🔓 Publishers May Finally be Getting Unstuck From Google TOP STORY: Google’s ad tech antitrust punishment is finally public. No breakup, but the remedies could make it much easier for publishers to move away from GAM. Rival ad servers get equal access to AdX bids, publishers get more bid transparency, and Google Ads can no longer bid directly into GAM. ——— OTHER HEADLINES 💰 Taboola buys Dianomi for up to $36.1M, giving it a shortcut into high-value finance audiences. 📍 Infillion acquires Foursquare, adding location data to a growing ad tech portfolio that already includes Catalina and MediaMath. 🔒 Amazon blocks Meta’s Muse from shopping on its site as the fight over who controls agentic commerce heats up. Streaming spent ten years trying to kill cable just to turn directly back into it. If I'm paying for a subscription, I should never see a single ad
Disney+ has updated its subscriber agreement to allow ads before and after movies and shows on every subscription tier The new terms don't mean every subscriber will necessarily see ads

🦔Disney+ updated its subscriber agreement to allow ads on every plan, including the one you pay extra for to avoid ads. The ad-free tier costs up to $28 a month for the bundle. Disney says the ads will appear before and after content on "live and linear" programming, but the updated agreement gives them the right to expand that. Amazon did the same thing last year. Netflix added an ad tier in 2022. Cable TV started the same way decades ago. My Take You pay $28 a month for a plan called "no ads" and Disney just gave themselves permission to show you ads on it. Amazon did the same thing last year. Most people didn't cancel. Disney saw that and figured if Amazon can get away with it, so can they. The whole reason streaming existed was because cable got too expensive and had too many ads. Now Disney charges more than cable did ten years ago and shows you ads on top of it. CD sales are up 58% this year. Vinyl sales grew again. People are done with a product that gets worse every year and costs more, and eventually streaming is going to learn the same lesson the music industry already did. You can only squeeze people so many times before they find something else. Hedgie🤗

Disney+ has updated its terms to allow ads across ALL subscription plans, including Premium. Junior Mode profiles will remain the only exception.

What do you call an Account Director with an idea? Strategist. What do you call a Strategist with an attitude? Creative Director. What do you call a Creative Director with a budget? Fiction.
