I have a confession to make. I hate my chickens. 😂🐓 There. I said it! I REALLY tried to become a chicken person. We went ALL IN. New shed. Insulated coop. High-tech automatic doors. Cameras. Electric fencing. Bear protection. These nasty little dinosaurs basically live in a maximum-security luxury compound. And I still cannot stand them. 😂 Everyone on X with chickens makes it look so wholesome. “Look at my sweet girls!” “Fresh eggs every morning!” “Chicken math!” Meanwhile I’m just trying to gather eggs without getting shit on and wondering why nobody warned me that chickens are tiny dinosaurs with terrible decision-making skills and absolutely no sense of self-preservation, NONE! And FREE EGGS?! 😂 Feed. Bedding. Lime. Diatomaceous earth. Random medical supplies because somebody is ALWAYS doing something stupid. Electricity. Gas driving into town for yet another thing the chickens apparently need. Cleaning. More cleaning. Bear fencing. Then fixing everything when a bear decides our expensive electric fence and double walled shed/coop is merely a polite suggestion. There are TWO humans in this house. TWO. At this point every egg probably costs us $47.63, and I have preserved eggs in every way known to mankind. Freeze-dried eggs. Water-glassed eggs. Frozen eggs. Scrambled and frozen eggs. Enough breakfast burritos to survive the apocalypse. You name it, I’ve done it—and I STILL have 19 DOZEN eggs in the fridge. Even my five dogs are like, “Good grief, lady, not eggs again.” 🤦‍♀️😂 I think I’m done. I am tapping out. @tuckerpoodle — girl, you make this look SO fun and SO easy. 😂 I watch you with your chickens and think, “See! I should love this!” I do not. I genuinely think I’m missing the chicken-loving gene everyone else apparently received. I tried to become a chicken lady. Turns out I’m just a dog lady who accidentally built a luxury resort for birds I don’t even like. 😂

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jim Copenhaver, who was gravely wounded in the horrific shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania. Jim endured unimaginable hardship with strength and perseverance. We join his family and loved ones in mourning his loss and praying for them during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.

Lucy threw up on her bed a couple of weeks ago — the one the shelter workers gave her — and I couldn't clean it out. So I tossed it. Today, she's curled up under the table on Madeline's hoodie. I imagine she loves it, full of the warm, familiar smell of those she loves. It reminds me of the day after Lucy got taken, when I went to the shelter, and they wouldn't let me see her. I left a bag of stuff for her. Anything that smelled like home. Socks. Toys. I wanted her to know that we were still here. I can close my eyes and remember the way that day felt. I can smell the shelter as I walked in. I can hear the barking. I can feel the fear that I knew Lucy felt and the shaking in my hands that I couldn't control. A part of that sadness will remain etched inside of me forever now, as a memory. I think this is where the wisdom of age comes from. Now, my 11-year-old dog is sleeping peacefully, curled up with another warm, familiar object, while her girls finger-paint on the table next to her and soft music plays while a fire warms the house. These are the times it is all too easy to take for granted — until they are gone. Until they are locked in a cell. We were blessed. We got them back. In retrospect, two months feels like a mercy. I can't help but think of the others. Snuggles. Major. Atlas. The other families that have had these moments seized from them by an overzealous and heavy-handed government. Some for over a year. You're not just taking our dogs. You are taking this. You are taking these precious moments and throwing them in a cold, hard cell, waiting to die. Like they don't even matter. But they do. I’ve got very sad news: Jim Copenhaver, who was shot at the Butler Trump rally on July 13, 2024, has died. I don’t have many details at this point, but it’s no secret that Jim was dealing with permanent injuries from Butler—including having bullet fragments still inside of him. RIP Jim
