Our Region is home to just 9% of the world’s population, yet almost half of all people globally who need humanitarian assistance live here. Despite immense pressure, countries continued to deliver: -Three countries were validated by WHO for eliminating trachoma as a public health problem. -Sudan increased third-dose pentavalent vaccination coverage from 38% to 71%. -Somalia reduced cholera deaths by 93%. -Maternal mortality ratio fell from 191 to 160 deaths per 100 000 live births between 2020 and 2025 in the Region. WHO Iraq and the Ministry of Health in the Kurdistan Region convened to advance the development of the WHO Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS) 2026–2030, ensuring that it reflects health priorities and evolving needs across Iraq, including in the Kurdistan Region. The discussions focused on refining strategic priorities and identifying areas where WHO can provide technical support to strengthen the health system, advance health and well-being, and accelerate progress towards Universal Health Coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals. The CCS will guide WHO’s collaboration with health authorities across Iraq over the next five years, grounded in shared priorities, partnership and measurable results for better health for all.

The impact of attacks on health care lasts long after a facility is damaged.
