Our company was founded a little more than a year ago ... but we've already built our first rowhouse
My company is The American Housing Corporation. We're a real estate development (and manufacturing) company building rowhouses designed for families: the American Starter Home
Our mission is to solve the problem (at scale):
"How can we build housing in places where young people already live, so they have kids and stay?"

At most urban hospitals, nurses manage around 4 patients
When they are assigned the "bad" patients, the ratio shrinks. And the bad patients are usually (not always) ones who are in the hospital for a while
Similar to the problem of discipline in kids with school ... by choosing to not do anything, we close our eyes and push ALL of those costs onto the other people immediately around them. The nurses and teachers who didn't sign up or were trained for discipline. And for the other patients and students who receive less attention as a result of the bad behavior of a few
And the greater financial costs borne by all of society.

The same problem exists in hospitals
Nurses are treated horribly by some patients.
My only thought re: the NHJ essay is that we, as a culture and a country, have no idea what to do with the "bad kids." The "bad kids" who make classrooms impossible, who make teachers' lives hell, who cause problems pretty much from the jump.

And there is no practical recourse. Abusive family member can be asked to leave ... but patients cannot be kicked out.
And so nurses are subject to all manner of abuse. Extreme verbal, racial, sexual innuendo, and even physical. By people who use that a means to exercise some form of control, out of spite and malice
Ask any nurse at any urban hospital when was the last time she was called a racial slur by a patient. Some learn how to "handle" it (like my wife). Others, not unreasonably, do not learn that.
RNs are paid well, but not extremely high. It's in a similar wage band to teachers (who generally get paid less but have summer off, job isn't as physical etc)

It's rare (though probably should be more common) for nurses to be compensated for this abuse ... so the direct "costs" manifest more in high turnover rates of nurses in urban hospitals.
Which is both a large cost to healthcare at large, both financially bc hospitals have to pay staffing firms significantly more to fill in shortages and in terms of quality, bc the average tenure of nurses is ~lower than it might be.
And it's one of the main reasons we have "shortage" of nurses, despite it being an excellent career in terms of financial return.

The decline of the urban parochial (Catholic) schools has been a tremendous loss to the City. Every major City.
They were tremendous assets as neighborhood schools. A huge tragedy.
Eh, I lived four blocks away from my Catholic elementary school in Queens. I was dropped off every morning and I walked home. This isn’t a big deal.

This is incredibly dystopian!
~Today’s adults increasingly behave like the children they never have~ feels like a rude thing to say about people. And yet:
“Toy sales among adult-only households have now outpaced households with children for toy sales, growing 16% through June, equivalent to 55% of total toy industry receipts….
“Together, teens and adults generated nearly 60% of the industry’s incremental dollar gains”

Conservatives need a *positive vision* for cities. And that both includes making them for families … and to actually BUILD IT
"There's a tendency on the conservative side to just critique when things go wrong in the City. Yes, crime is a problem. Yes, urban education needs to get better. But the best solution is to positively show what it would look like better.
If we want other states or cities to see the disparities we should go pick a piece of ground and just build a ton of stuff that's nice quality, beautiful and well run.
The best way to 'own the libs' would be to just build something awesome."
