A fly that died years ago is flying around a harbor that doesn't exist. Here's what's going on. Scientists took one female fruit fly and sliced its brain into about 7,000 pieces, each roughly 2,000 times thinner than a human hair. They photographed those slices 21 million times under an electron microscope. Then hundreds of people spent years tracing every connection by hand until they had the whole thing, all 139,255 neurons and 54.5 million synapses. That map is called FlyWire. Odyssey hasn't said exactly which map it used, but FlyWire is the one most of these projects build on. Earlier this year a startup called Eon ran that map as a simulation with zero training and got a virtual fly that walks and grooms on its own. Now Odyssey has put the brain somewhere new. The harbor in this clip isn't sitting on a server as a 3D model or a game level. Odyssey-3 is a 14-billion-parameter AI that learned how water and light behave by watching a ton of video, and it invents each frame as the fly steers through it. This is kind of a big deal for a nerdy reason. For as long as people have tried to build a mind, there have been two camps. One says copy a real brain. The other says train a giant model on tons of data. Those camps have mostly fought each other, and in this clip one is living inside the other. And here's a fun bit of math. The fly has 54.5 million synapses. The AI dreaming up its world has 14 billion parameters. Line those up and the world is about 250 times bigger than the brain living in it. That's what happens when one approach rides on GPUs and the other rides on grad students with microscopes. The trained side ballooned in a couple of years. The copied side took the better part of a decade to get one fly. What really got me is how little it takes to fool a fly. A fruit fly sees through about 800 tiny lenses per eye, so its whole view of the world is around 1,600 pixels. Each of your eyes sends about a million nerve fibers to your brain. Keeping a fly convinced means the AI only has to look right across 1,600 pixels, which is a pretty low bar, and it's clearing it. The fake world will look good enough for human eyes long before anybody can slice up a human brain and rebuild all 86 billion neurons.
We placed the fruit fly brain inside Odyssey-3, a frontier world model. The lil’ guy is now flying around totally imagined, simulated worlds all by itself 🫶

This cannot be real. This petty tyrant lecturing us about “American democracy” is like being lectured by a screaming five-year-old about self-control. Sit down Mr. President, everyone knows who you really are.
It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically. Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country. Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case. Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve. In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota. The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.

Subversion: 15 Min Edition Demoralization: Instill an inverted moral framework that cons people into willingly subverting and ultimately sublating their own civilization; they then capture its institutions from within and reproduce that worldview across successive generations. Destabilization: Put that framework into practice, mobilizing people along shifting lines of social antagonism, radicalizing conflicts, and undermining institutional stability toward crisis. Crisis: Escalate internal conflict until established authority breaks down, creating conditions for revolution, civil war, or foreign intervention. Normalization: Consolidate a new authoritarian order, institutionalize its leadership and ideology, suppress and purge the revolutionary change agents.
Replying to @Ne_pas_couvrir
Can you elaborate a little on the Normalization part and how it correlates to the previous steps?

The new Tesla Roadster accelerates faster than a fighter jet taking off from an aircraft carrier
The new Tesla Roadster produces more thrust than an F-16 fighter jet at military power Roadster Thrust augment: >80 kN (~18,000 lbf) F-16 with F100-PW-229: ~79.2 kN (~17,800 lbf) without afterburner Tesla packed enough cold-gas thrust into a car that exceeds the non-afterburning thrust of an F-16 engine With afterburner, the F-16 exceeds at ~130 kN But the fact this comparison even exists is insane Tesla just pushed automotive engineering deep into aerospace territory

New translation now posted and read aloud in Greek and English on my Substack: armanddangour.substack.com/p…
Anacreon 417 (6th century BC): new verse version, following the trochaic rhythm of the Greek: Thracian filly, why, I ask you,
eyeing me with sidelong glances,
do you run from me so coldly,
treating me as lacking skill?
Know this: I could slip the bridle
deftly over you, and, holding
fast the reins, could wheel you sharply
round the turning-posts at speed!
Now you crop the meadow pastures,
skipping lightly, playing freely, since as yet no skilful horseman
sits astride upon your back!

Après les condamnations, il y a la remigration. Les étrangers condamnés seront renvoyés. Les binationaux seront déchus de la nationalité française. C'est l'article 25-1 du Code civil. Puisque c'est le pays de leur cœur, ils y retourneront.

We can’t let this happen in America & I won’t let it happen in Ohio. The stakes are clear.
France's cost-of-living protests take a destructive turn as rioters torch a historic town hall, leaving much of the 143-year-old landmark in ruins. In Limoges, flames engulf the building before its roof collapses. The local prefect calls the attack deliberate, while France's interior minister blames radical far-left groups for violence breaking out during demonstrations nationwide. President Emmanuel Macron is condemning the destruction and warning that those responsible for attacking public buildings and businesses will face prosecution. The unrest is spreading well beyond one city. See where masked groups are attempting to storm government buildings: foxnews.com/world/limoges-to…

🚨 BREAKING UPDATE: Hungary's new Prime Minister Peter Magyar responds to the French riots by declaring WAR on open borders BS pushed by the EU LET'S GO! "Perhaps it is now clear to everyone why Hungary advocates the strictest possible approach to migration, and why we will NOT weaken our border protection or immigration policy under any pressure." 👏🏻 "The Europe we all love is in serious trouble today. It is our responsibility, too, to help preserve our continent as the most wonderful place in the world for our children and grandchildren." The way for every western nation is to shut the border and historic mass remigration 🇺🇸🇭🇺

The single worst intellectual error I ever made was discounting the need for some standard of enforcement concerning what should count as citizenship, which is the political right to participate in the formation of the rules concerning public life. As a libertarian, I never thought this mattered, which is an idiotic thing to believe. As I think back on Frederic Bastiat's The Law, this was a central theme of that book – he believed that receiving welfare should disqualify one for the franchise – a point I conveniently overlooked. This error is now the doom of Europe.
