Cathie Wood and Tom Lee are both saying that the economy is essentially in a better spot than we think. Real GDP growth in the United States is going to accelerate because of the advent of AI, manufacturing and autonomy. The real productivity gains will come over time. The short term oil spikes, tariffs and trade tensions will be a thing of the past once this acceleration happens. We are already seeing signs that this is the case.

My take on these proposed academic exchanges with China is that academic exchanges with China directly led to Covid. So, as a mere matter of return on investment, this was without doubt the most expensive academic exchange program in human history. Maybe we should have less of it rather than more.

What's interesting is how far into Trump territory the spending extends. Of the $140.1 million shown, $80.5 million, or 57%, is going into districts Trump won by at least five points. Democrats are committing substantial money beyond narrowly held Republican territory. They have $41.4 million in Trump +5 or greater districts, about 63% of their spending shown. Republicans’ overall spending advantage is concentrated in Trump +0–5 seats. Their $11.4 million advantage there exceeds their $8.5 million advantage across the entire chart. That band is especially important to their strategy. Both parties are spending serious money on a House battlefield that extends well into districts Trump carried comfortably.

Airlines are going to remove more seats for the rich while we’re denied high speed rail and reliable other alternatives. A great system we have here!

Familiar sources told us a different story: DEY., a PR firm representing many of the most prominent AI safetyists, was booking his interviews. One source, who had direct knowledge, even said DEY. preemptively booked Nate Soares, a prominent AI safety figure, for interviews that directly overlapped with Jacob going public. Jacob working with DEY. is notable for two reasons: first, as mentioned, he previously said he wasn’t working with third parties. When I talked to Gates in person, he said “experts tell me a long range electric semi truck is impossible”. However, when I asked what his assumptions were about battery energy density and vehicle energy consumption per mile, which are the two numbers needed to determine range, he did not know either number! I also offered to let him take one of our semi trucks for independent testing, but he declined. Not sure what more I could have done. 🤷‍♂️
