Overrated. This must be the worst-scheduled biography of a president: volumes 1-4 deal with his pre-presidency life and first year in office, while volume 5 deals with the entire second term (Vietnam War, Apollo, Civil Rights, etc) and post-presidency life…

My great grandfather was his pen-pal back when they were youngsters, we had/have all the letters back and forth. That book couldve been 1200 pages.

Caro has tons of facts and is very diligent, but also has simplistic framings. Criticized LBJ in ‘48 Senate race, but whitewashed Johnson’s racist opponent. Robert Moses in Power Broker as some kind of morality play also far too simplistic.
