Leitartikel zum katastrophalen inneren Zustand Israels von Gad Lerner (ein jüdischer Italiener) in "Manifesto". Der erste Text, der alles zusammenfasst & zuspitzt, aus jüdischer Perspektive. (Ital. Long Tweet von @paolomossetti, maschinenübersetzt)

This day is profoundly painful for so many New Yorkers. It marks three years since the horrific war crimes of October 7. On that day, Hamas killed more than 1,100 Israelis and abducted 251 others. We grieve alongside our many friends and neighbors who still carry that unthinkable loss. The suffering did not begin nor end that day. It instead continued through the Israeli government’s devastating, ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which it has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians—including more than 21,000 children. Even since the so-called ceasefire, more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed. That suffering has intensified with every Israeli bomb dropped on ambulances waiting outside hospitals, every drone strike targeting a residential building or journalist, and every shipment of food aid turned away at a border crossing. Many New Yorkers are reckoning with this unbearable grief, and we mourn alongside them – all while knowing that our tax dollars fund these war crimes. Three years later, we must refuse to accept a world in which occupation and apartheid continue, where war crimes are met with impunity, and our federal government continues its complicity with every arms shipment. To honor the dead, we must fight for a world in which every person can live with freedom, safety, and dignity.

Tom Steyer is the only billionaire who supports the California billionaire tax. He makes SO many powerful observations in the recent @NewYorker article about the selfish, decadent and morally corrupt elites running Silicon Valley right now. From the piece: "I suggested to several super-rich Californians, ‘Look, if you don’t like this, why don’t we sit down and come up with something that works from your standpoint and actually addresses the issues?’ And they had no interest in doing it." He lamented the passing of what he saw as tech’s originating spirit, entrepreneurial but also patriotic, which was exemplified by the Hewlett-Packard founders’ heavy involvement in philanthropy and public service." Can you imagine David Packard or Bill Hewlett doing the kind of self-promotion that Elon Musk does?” he said. “There’s obviously been just a really dramatic change. I don’t want to turn them into gods, but Dave Packard and Bill Hewlett felt a deep connection with the country and with the state and with the land. It doesn’t exist today.” I asked him how he explains this change. “The people who are making the big money in California are technology people,” he said, and many of them “are incredibly focussed on that and quite dismissive of the other kinds of learning. That is not something they respect. English literature is not something they respect.” It may be pertinent that we were speaking at the decidedly old-school Yale Club, in New York City—Steyer is an alum. “When you get too reductive in terms of focussing just on money, or just focussing on technology, there are a lot of things that you’re cutting away from that world view,” he went on. “And a lot of those things are what we would think of as human values, like compassion, some sense of honor, all the things that you read about in the soft courses. And, if you don’t have that, then O.K., good night. You have a different frame of reference and a different value system.”
Californians will vote on whether to impose a one-time, five-per-cent wealth tax on billionaires. “If it passes, it will be a revolution,” an economist at the University of California, Berkeley, said. newyorker.com/magazine/2026/…

Zionismus-Diskussion, 1905.
In 1905, after it had become obvious that the only way Zionists were able to acquire land in Palestine was to displace Palestinians, a delegate to the 1905 Zionist congress, Yitzhak Epstein, warned: "Can it be that the dispossessed will keep silent and calmly accept what is being done to them? Will they not ultimately arise to regain, with physical force, that which they were deprived of through the power of gold? Will they not seek justice from the strangers that placed themselves over their land?" source: dukeupress.edu/palestine-and… p.5

"I don’t know how Israel could have sat on Hamas’s 40-page battle plan for over a year -- and still called October 7 an unforeseeable surprise. "I don’t know why IOF border surveillance operators who repeatedly raised red flags about Hamas training for an attack were ignored -- and in some cases threatened with court-martial. "I don’t know why Netanyahu never briefed Israel's security chiefs about the explicit warnings he got from both the UAE and Egypt about a major Hamas operation before October 7. "I don’t know why we were told Hamas targeted Nova -- when Israeli investigations concluded that Hamas had no prior intelligence about the festival and had not planned to attack it . . . We don’t consider Israel a “Jewish state.” That very claim is a colossal act of identity theft. Find one other country that goes by the name of an entire religion. A country can be a theocracy, but for a political entity to nationalize a religion and claim to be the nation-state of that entire religious group is a phenomenon virtually without parallel. And yes, that is discriminatory, anti-democratic, and a threat to Jews everywhere.
Some numbers tell a dispositive story. 1939: 40 million Arabs in the world. 2026: 450 million Arabs in the world 1939: 17 million Jews in the world. 2026: 16 million Jews in the world 1939: 4 sovereign Arab states 2026: 22 sovereign Arab states 1939: 0 sovereign Jewish states. 2026: 1 sovereign Jewish state Tell me again what the argument is about.

Actually, Foxx came first. He started this around 1978, when he did quit Ultravox (which btw also has been a brilliant band, when Foxx was singer and lyricist).

In an interview with Italian media, Kenneth Stern, the lead drafter of the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism, warns against incorporating the definition into law. Stern explains that he helped draft it as a non-legally binding working tool, originally intended to identify data on antisemitic incidents, not to serve as a legal standard. Now he warns that if Meloni's government formally adopts the definition, it could be used to restrict legitimate political debate and contribute to a new form of McCarthyism, particularly under pressure from pro-Israel lobbying groups: "In Australia, they are applying that definition within a healthcare workers' association, and the fear is that if someone posts something about Gaza that others deem violent according to that definition, they could have their medical license revoked. In Germany, where the IHRA definition has been adopted by the government, they have applied it to Jewish people protesting against the war in Gaza, labeling them as antisemitic. In the United Kingdom, they use it to suppress demonstrations where Israel is defined as an apartheid state. In the United States, it was used in one of the agreements by the Trump administration, or rather in many of those orchestrated by the Trump administration. This led a Holocaust survivor and genocide expert to state: 'I don't know if I can continue teaching, because if I quote Hannah Arendt or other sources that are interpreted as contrary to the definition, this will become a problem.'... And what is happening at a legislative level is that a faction of the Jewish community is essentially telling the state: 'Adopt our view of the issue, according to which anti-Zionism is antisemitism.' To me, this is a problem. I do not want states deciding the meaning of a specific set of religious values... It means asserting that anyone who is anti-Zionist does not have a legitimate point of view. There are Palestinians who say: 'Zionism has impacted my life.' And that is not because Jewish people specifically did it, but because of the effect it had. There is a whole range of intermediate situations that are not clear-cut, depending on whether you look at intent or what people perceive. Yet we are trying to force everything onto one side of the line... I do not believe any definition of antisemitism should be used by a state to dictate what is permissible to say on political matters. This is McCarthyism, and it is deeply problematic." Three years have passed since October 7th, 2023. Three years of death and destruction. For those living between the river and the sea, much has changed in these three painful years. What hasn't changed is the system that brought this catastrophe into our lives. The morning of October 7th we woke up to the sound of sirens and the feeling of fear in our stomachs. More than 1,200 Israelis were killed on that horrific day, 251 were kidnapped. We lost friends and partners that day. More than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed since. The system of military control over millions of Palestinians has always been violent, and it has also bred violence. These three years have been tragic proof of this. Three years, and counting. More than 1,100 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the so-called “ceasefire” began, including two killed just yesterday. Almost the entire population of Gaza has been forced into less than a third of the Strip’s territory, where most people live in overcrowded tent camps without functioning public health or education systems. For Palestinians in the West Bank, IDF-backed settler terror has long become a daily reality. Since October 2023, 65 Palestinian communities have been ethnically cleansed, while more than 250 settler outposts and over 100 settlements have been established under this government. The occupation is the system that produces this violence and perpetuates it. The only way to break the cycle is to dismantle the system.

Six days after 7 October 2023, I warned in Byline Times that Israel was beginning to commit genocide. Three years later, denial continues—but it is mutating. In the face of a strong consensus about Israel’s genocide, Zionists are doubling down on a dishonest, repressive denial, supposedly of definitional technicalities but actually of the whole reality of Israel’s crimes. Meanwhile, centrists are bringing forced to recognise its atrocities, but in a different kind of denial continue to resist their full implication—the need for a total break with Israel. My new piece for Byline.

Today, for the first time since the Nazi era, a right wing extremist has been elected president of a state parliament in Germany. He relied not only on votes of the AfD but also the BSW, a party that once pretended it set out to stop the AfD by combining anti-migrant with pro-worker policies, and likely of members of the CDU. This time there is no excuse. This time no one can say, they didn’t know what was at stake. Being anti-fascist is the only choice for democrats who mean it. And yes, this has to include economic policy in the service of universal dignity.
