He goes so far as to say that if he were to run the White House CEA today he'd do it with a lot of reliance on Claude and friends.

We are seeing a new trend in submissions to @arxiv (and presumably to conferences and journals): Authors submitting papers whose contents they likely do not understand. 1/

Notice the role reversal. Universities, whose comparative advantage is supposed to be basic research with diffuse and uncertain social returns, increasingly justify themselves through "impact," donor appeal, media visibility, and other measurable near-term social outcomes. Meanwhile, frontier tech companies, whose comparative advantage is commercially useful innovation, spend conspicuous resources on pure intellectual prestige goods. Theorem proving, open math conjectures, fundamental science, benchmarks with obscure immediate commercial value.

Rudy Giuliani publicly told Zohran Mamdani that it is “inappropriate” for Zohran to go to the 9/11 memorial. On the next day, Mamdani released 170,000+ pages of documents exposing that Giuliani’s administration lied to the public, because they knew about the toxic air after 9/11, all to get people back to work. This is the biggest political check mate of our time I fear…

It denigrates the authors, and it implies that institutions direct and certify research. It shows whoever wrote it has no idea how academic research works.
You know what annoys me? When people say "MIT research," "Harvard paper," or "NBER study" instead of naming the authors directly.

Awesome stuff!
I think we now have real evidence that AI exposure is associated with job decline for age <25. The Canary in the Coalmine paper addresses a lot of concerns. While economic science takes time; now is the time to think about policy responses. @erikbryn @BharatKChandar @RuyuChen

Dario is wrong. He knows absolutely nothing about the effects of technological revolutions on the labor market. Don't listen to him, Sam, Yoshua, Geoff, or me on this topic. Listen to economists who have spent their career studying this, like @Ph_Aghion , @erikbryn , @DAcemogluMIT , @amcafee , @davidautor
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei: “50% of all tech jobs, entry-level lawyers, consultants, and finance professionals will be completely wiped out within 1–5 years.”

It's ridiculous that I have to sign up to be a supplier of Harvard university to get some train tickets reimbursed. I think I've entered my address and info about 8 times at this point in the "supplier portal" and have had to do it multiple times. the cost of these bureaucratic processes are totally out of control.

How much of the impact will be due to fertiliser price surge and how much due to fuel price surge? For food items, its mostly the latter and, thus, will take an effect sooner. For agricultural commodities, its probably an even split, and will take an effect with a delay.
Fertilizer prices have moved up to their highest levels since September 2022, rising 52% YoY. About a third of global fertilizer supply passes through the Strait of Hormuz. This will drive food price inflation higher in the coming weeks/months.
