“The first duty of a government is to govern.” — Lord Curzon, 1893.

i love writing. i never let agents write for me. whether it's docs, or tweets, or shitposts, or even prompts (okay maybe that one's harder as agents manage other agents) there's a simple reason for that: i still strongly believe that writing is thinking. it's a skill i hope to never give up. it's also important to me that whatever i say is always authentic, mistakes and all. my favorite posts are the ones that i just full send without any editing i suspect it also helps with prompting. being able to clearly express what i want, and knowing the vocabulary i need to be able to direct my agents does seem to make for more effective usage of agents. in the same way that engineers have an advantage when we prompt agents to write code, because we are intimately familiar with the words that make up the discipline knowing the right word incantations to get an agent to produce a desired goal almost feels like spellcasting. as models get more capable, and that input box looks more and more like a magic box that can output anything, words become the interface between you and the genie there may come a time when we give up the keyboard in exchange for brain-computer interfaces. but until then, i'm writing every word.

I am going to make a group chat full of people hacking insanely cool things onto hardware. Reply or retweet and I’ll add you to the chat.
I have discovered $50 amazon photo frames to be the PERFECT home display screen They can be rooted, updated to run a modern browser, have WiFi and can be powered from USB 1280×800 resolution with a nice touch screen I detailed how to hack these yourself in my latest video wesbos.com/hacking-smart-pho…

"AI is conscious" is the first major example of AI psychosis and the most potent cogsec vulnerability that exists in the human brain. Many AI companies are exploiting this to gain power over you. We're empathy machines. Attacks that exploit this, like 'model welfare" should be treated as malware.
Believing LLMs feel pain implies that GPUs are alive and that the process of matrix multiplication is equivalent of thought. That's absurd.

This is deeply disturbing: Anthropic secretly invited religious leaders to SF to advise them on AI safety, had them sign NDAs, but then primarily tried to convince them Claude has a soul & moral standing, all while wining & dining them to the max. 1/ tinyurl.com/preview/296b5z8z

We have to move away from benchmarks and over to use cases. Specs is for the nerds. People want something that is easy to use, cheap and is highly convenient. Muse understood this.

A now removed post announced the Zilker Botanical Garden Conservancy would no longer run the gardens. The city, which has been doing ground maintenance, will take over all operations. We're still learning about the move... via @KUT. kut.org/austin/2026-09-30/au…

a legit problem in tech is how many of its leaders are trying to reinvent systems without bothering to understand how or why the current system works in the first place
Instinct CEO Noah Shinn says agents will let restaurants give tables to birthdays and anniversaries over whoever clicks first "And traditionally, because of the way that the internet has worked, at least for reservations, it's been first come first serve. So anyone that comes in, no matter how important or how not important it might be, whoever gets in first gets the reservation." "But what if you had the ability for the agent to be able to communicate on both sides, communicate, hey, this is important. This is actually the person's spouse's birthday, the 30th birthday, a very special event is coming up." "And the restaurant too can say, let's actually prioritize birthdays or major decade birthdays or major anniversaries or these certain people, I don't know, whatever it might be, right?" "So now with the ability, with all of the logistical burden of having to describe exactly what your case is and what's happening and why it's important. Now we have the ability to perfectly match what does the restaurant want? What does the user want?" "And that will result in more special events for the users being able to actually have a spot in the restaurant."

Turns out the “you can just do things” approach to governing is extremely popular.
Last month, we refurbished 10 tennis courts in Crotona Park — the only public tennis courts in the Bronx with lights for night play. We stopped by recently to see how things were going. Thank you to @NYJTL, @usta and @yonex_tennis for helping us deliver high-quality public spaces that New Yorkers deserve.

I personally don’t give a f*ck how my taxi looks as long as it gets me from point A to point B safely and efficiently.
Imagine being a Waymo, with all of your protrusions and cameras and such, pulling up to an intersection next to a sleek Cybercab with no steering wheel. I would be so embarassed.

Apple’s new focus on influencers for events and product “reviews” — people who say nothing but positive things and never ask a legitimate question of Apple executives in exchange for free devices, travel and more, is a serious issue. This echo chamber will lead to mediocrity.
Early impressions: The vast majority of people with an iPhone 17 Pro shouldn’t upgrade to the 18 Pro unless they’re trying to lock in trade-in value toward next year. And, burgundy is a step down from orange. The overall reality is far different than what you’re seeing on TikTok.

If I were Austin's Transportation Department trying to prepare for a flood of traffic from cheap robotaxis, I'd stripe these surface street HOV lanes from downtown Houston on as many Austin streets as possible. It'll do a pretty good job and the state probably won't stop it.

For the first time, scientists have mapped the complete brain and central nervous system of an adult male fruit fly — a key model organism in science. 🪰 Working alongside HHMI Janelia Research Campus and the scientific community, @GoogleResearch scientists and researchers used AI to combine millions of 2D images into 3D neural shapes, reconstructing a record-breaking 166,000+ neurons. This foundational map of the adult male fruit fly brain can help accelerate our understanding of the brain, and is a major milestone in neuroscience.

I’m going to summarize AOC’s week so you can finally understand why she’s currently the Democrat front runner for 2028: 1. She filmed herself injecting fertility hormones and announced she’s freezing her eggs. 2. She casually declared “Woke 1 was crazy.” You should view this as a clean, public break from the brand that made her famous. She’s signaling growth and maturity by distancing herself from Wokeness. And she’s doing it without fully abandoning her tribe. 3. She allegedly split from her fiancé. 4. She’s a career woman in her mid-30s. She’s modeling the timelines, trade-offs, and biological realities that define the millions of women in her generation. This alone is a winning combination on the Left and resonates with most women. They want validation that their path—delayed family, career first, personal autonomy, anxiety about the biological clock—is seen and heard. This week, tens of millions of women in their 20-50s looked at AOC and saw themselves. No other prominent female Democrat currently occupies that lane and has her cultural reach She knows how to get attention, has media fluency, and is authentic. She’s representing the modern woman. You’re looking at the current 2028 Democrat nominee.

I think we speak for the whole OSINT community when we say that Google should revert this change immediately. We’ve already seen AI-generated satellite imagery flooding the information space. This is irresponsible and adds nothing of value. Google Earth’s new AI image generation feature needs to be removed.
Tonight I typed just one sentence into Google Earth and put refugees near the Mexican border. Then I planted a nuclear plant in Iran. What on earth is Google doing? Check my latest post here: digitaldigging.org/p/how-to-…

Julian Schrittwisser is intentionally misleading. No one asked Anthropic to be open source! The request is to allow the open weights to exist with no restrictions! Msft & Apple allow Linux to exist and Nvidia has no issue with competitors releasing open-source drivers.

We need a national ban on bespoke transit systems. We pick the best system in the world/country and copy that verbatim. Our DOTs/transit agencies have zero conscience about saving taxpayer money. Transit is not a jobs program or a vanity project.
WMATA announced today that they will be working to put partial-height screen doors on the Red Line. They can do this because of how standardized the design of the system is. Another reminder that standardized design is great for public infrastructure!

We really need to have a conversation about the number of useless (fraudulent) nonprofits that we pay *millions* of dollars to actively harm our cities. Rip up the contracts and bring the capability in-house. If it’s not worth the effort then the problem wasn’t that important.
Austin paid nonprofits in full even after they missed nearly half of the performance targets reviewed in a damning city audit. Read more @statesman: statesman.com/news/local/art…
