The reason Penn as an INSTITUTION must make an example of her as an INDIVIDUAL is not because she is a bad person but because she failed to rise to be an examplar model of moral leadership, of excellence, of civic value, of virtue. She gave an INVERTED commencement speech yesterday and the perverse upside down wisdom she imparted on students was this: Do not stand up for what is right. Do not speak freely to defend virtue. Instead do this: surround yourself with lawyers, choose to listen to lawyers, evade saying or doing what you know in your heart is correct, what you would want your children to say because they heard you say it, instead do this: cloak yourself in cowardice. Hide in your hypocrisy and smirk with a shifty smug cleverness that send chills of shock and shame for all whom burnish the brand you are supposed to protect, with pride.

At least look at the camera and memorize the damn speech instead of reading off of a teleprompter. This is the most inauthentic thing I've ever seen in my life.

Fitting that Penn's latin motto is "Laws without morals are useless"

This is not an apology it’s a deeper hole. Throwing the Constitution under the bus to keep her own job by gaslighting that it was on this basis that she answered the questions, knowing full well threats of violence are not protected by free speech. And hiding behind the fact that the threats were racial threats as an excuse than they weren’t directed at an individual is dehumanising a group.

The shorter version of what she should have said here and in Congress Any call for Genocide of any People is wrong and we don’t tolerate it!

Nailed it. What happens with the ideology that can only destroy and never build. It eventually destroys the adherents. I bet she’s actually a great person beneath the terrible tools, advice and ideas. It’s a shame.

Ben Franklin would be ashamed of her. His vision for that university is a far cry from the values exhibited by its President.

Josh is right. Never let your lawyer be your conscience. Your lawyer’s job is to minimize your risk. It is not their job to help you do the right thing. That is your job as a leader and a human being.

A time when we are saying that silence is violence, at a time, when words hurt others and inspire violence, calls for genocide, scaring kids from coming to classes, preventing kids from coming to school, is definitely harassment and abuse. She needs to go because of her double standards, because she isn’t standing up for what it’s right, because 20% of her students feel unsafe at school

Liz Magill was offered again and again and again to revise her vile opinion. She smugly smiled refused. Reprehensible. Now that her job is in jeopardy, she's suddenly been struck with moral clarity.

Said best by Lt. Col. Frank Slade: “As I came in here, I heard those words, "cradle of leadership." Well, when the bough breaks, the cradle will fall. And it has fallen here; it has fallen. Makers of men; creators of leaders;be careful what kind of leaders you're producin' here.”
