Mental harassment to O & G resident doctor at GMC, Akola | Justice needed for martyred BSF Jawan’s daughter
A controversy broke out in the Obstetrics & Gynaecology department of Government Medical College, Akola.
Complaint: MD 1st year resident Dr. Harsha Baban Dalimkar filed a written complaint to Dean Dr. Sanjay Sonune against her HoD Dr. Nikita Raghuwanshi, alleging continuous mental harassment.
The Trigger: Dr. Dalimkar, daughter of BSF martyr Babanrao Dalimkar (martyred on 2 Oct 2002), joined GMC Akola on 20 Feb 2026. She alleged inhumane workload in the labour room, 24-hour emergency duties, and that her mental health deteriorated. Despite being diagnosed with depression and anxiety by a psychiatrist, her request for just 4 hours of rest on medical grounds was allegedly denied by the HoD.
Extreme Step: Distressed by the alleged harassment, she decided to quit her PG seat and emotionally submitted her resignation. Administration says no final decision to leave has been taken yet.
Action Taken: Taking cognizance, Dean Dr. Sonune has ordered a high-level inquiry and formed a 3-member committee headed by Dr. Shilpa Telgote. The committee will record statements of both the resident and the HoD and submit a report.
Instead of whitewashing the linen, the committee shall act neutrally & independently to deliver justice to the victim. Harassers & power abusers of medical education shall be terminated and sent to Jail to save our young dream filled children
No medical college in Maharashtra follow legal duty hours as they don't have any respect to laws. Wondering why the Health Ministry & Directorate of Medical Education of Maharastra are not acting.Every colege includng GMC Akola and BJ GMC Pune are cruelly squeezing PG students for 24-96 hours continuously till they attempt suicide.
Resident doctors demand atransparent duty roster & biometric attendnace to ensure proper implementation of 48 hours work week. Will CM0 act?
