Congress, it’s time to act. Pass the strongest safety aviation bill this year. @SpeakerJohnson @RepJeffries @SenatorWicker
Many of our family members enjoyed Halloween. We would give anything to see what costumes our loved ones would have come up with this year. They should be here, making more memories together. The Livingston’s, Mikey Stovall, Chris Collins, Elizabeth Keys and Grace Maxwell were eight of the 67 people killed on January 29, 2025. We miss our loved ones on the ordinary days, and we miss them on days like today, when we know how much fun they would be having. This is why we keep making calls, sending emails and going back to Washington. Our loved ones deserved to come home. So does everyone who gets on an airplane today. Congress, finish the strongest aviation safety bill this year. @SpeakerJohnson @RepJeffries @LeaderJohnThune @SenSchumer @RepSamGraves @RepRickLarsen @SenTedCruz @SenatorCantwell @RepMikeRogersAL @RepAdamSmith @SenatorWicker @SenJackReed #SaferSkiesForAll #FamiliesOfFlight5342

“Every day without action leaves safety risks unaddressed.” — @NTSB That is the warning from the agency that investigated the collision that killed our 67 loved ones. The investigation is complete. The failures are documented. Fifty safety recommendations identify what needs to change. Issuing them was essential. Following through is what protects the next family. As other aviation tragedies make headlines, our hearts are with the families whose lives have just changed forever. Those headlines bring back the shock and heartbreak of our own loss. We are thinking of them. For Flight 5342, we already have answers. What we are still waiting for is action. Congress, finish negotiations and pass the strongest aviation safety bill this year. Republicans and Democrats. House and Senate. Every committee involved. Our families have spent month after month asking you to address the failures that took the people we love. We should not have to keep begging. The NTSB is warning that risk remains. Congress needs to act with the urgency that warning deserves. @SpeakerJohnson @RepJeffries @LeaderJohnThune @SenSchumer @SenTedCruz @SenatorCantwell @RepSamGraves @RepRickLarsen @SenatorWicker @SenJackReed @RepMikeRogersAL @RepAdamSmith @SenateCommerce @CommerceDems @TransportGOP @TransportDems @SASCGOP @SASCDems @HASCRepublicans @HASCDemocrats @ALPAPilots @afa_cwa @CWAUnion #SaferSkiesForAll #FamiliesOfFlight5342
The DCA midair collision claimed 67 lives. The NTSB issued 50 safety recommendations to help prevent another tragedy. But recommendations save lives only when implemented. Every day without action leaves safety risks unaddressed. Learn more: ntsb.gov/DCAmidair-actions

ALT Animated NTSB graphic titled “From Investigation to Action” highlighting findings from the DCA midair collision investigation. The slides explain that 67 people died in the Jan. 29, 2025, collision between a passenger jet and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter near Reagan National Airport. The investigation identified critical safety risks and led to 50 safety recommendations addressing six areas: helicopter routes, air traffic management, collision-avoidance technology, radio communications, air traffic controller support, and safety oversight. The final slide emphasizes that while the investigation is complete, the work to improve aviation safety continues.

The @NTSB identified the causes of our crash and issued 50 safety recommendations. Its final report was released February 17. Then it was up to #Congress to finish the job. Eight months and thirteen days later, we’re still waiting. Our families live with the loss of 67 people every day. Every calendar page that turns is another month Congress cannot give back—and another month the flying public waits for stronger protections. #Republicans and #Democrats. Every committee involved. Finish negotiations. Pass the strongest aviation safety bill this year. The clock is ticking. Finish the job. @SpeakerJohnson @RepJeffries @SenTedCruz @SenatorCantwell @RepSamGraves @RepRickLarsen @SenatorWicker @RepMikeRogersAL #SaferSkiesForAll #FamiliesOfFlight5342

The DCA midair collision was a devastating reminder of what is at stake if we do not improve aviation safety now. T&I Democrats won’t stop fighting to protect travelers, as well as cabin and flight crews.

Implement the @NTSB safety recommendations! Ensure operating ADSB-In and out including @USArmy is mandated. Reconcile the bills, @SenateCommerce @commercedems @TransportGOP @TransportDems Pass an Aviation Safety bill this year @SpeakerJohnson and leader @RepJeffries
At @CNBC this morning on commercial #aviation #safety. I was asked whether aviation is safe. Yes, aviation in the U.S. is extraordinarily safe. The biggest risk in transportation is on our roads where 95% of all transportation deaths occur. With that said, there are significant vulnerabilities in the system that must be addressed. @NTSB has issued nearly 400 aviation safety recs that are awaiting action. We’ve issued some of these repeatedly. ADS-B In and #tech that provides visual and aural alerts to flight crews of traffic on a runway or taxiway and traffic on approach to land are great examples. That last one was first issued in 2000 and just recently reissued in 2024! If implemented, these recs will save lives.

WHERE IS THE BILL? Listen to their own words. Chairman @sentedcruz . Ranking Member @SenatorCantwell . Chairman @repsamgraves . Ranking Member @repricklarsen . They called for action. The House and Senate have each advanced a bill. Yet nearly two years after 67 lives were lost, our families are still waiting for agreed-upon final legislation. @transportgop @transportdems and @senatecommerce @senatecommercedems Committee: finish the negotiations. Release the text. Congress: Get the strongest aviation safety bill signed into law THIS YEAR. Our loved ones deserved protection. Everyone who flies deserves it now. Call @speakermjohnson : 202-225-4000 Call Leader @repjeffries : 202-225-4700 Tell them: Aviation safety cannot wait. Finish the conference. Finish the job. #SaferSkiesForAll

No one required ADS-B In on PSA Flight 5342, yet the NTSB has recommended it since 2008. We won’t wait another 17 years. Hear from the @famofflight5342, members of Congress, investigators, and allies demanding integrated ADS-B In.

Chairman @RepSamGraves, being a champion for general aviation means protecting everyone who flies. Reconcile the bills with the Senate. Get a strong aviation safety bill done. Our 67 loved ones were not protected. Everyone who flies deserves action. Get this done, @TransportGOP @TransportDems @SenateCommerce @commercedems @SpeakerJohnson @RepJeffries
Reps. Sam Graves (R-Mo.) and Jay Obernolte (R-Calif.) talked during the National Business Aviation Association's annual convention in Las Vegas about how being active general aviation pilots influences their work in Congress. During the session "From Cockpit to Congress," which was moderated by flight school owner and aircraft broker Mindy Lindheim, Graves and Obernolte discussed how they got into aviation and the different types of flying they do today. Graves is well known in the warbird community and regularly flies a vintage Curtiss P–40 Warhawk in the Wingnuts Flying Circus' airshow—also known as the "Greatest Little Airshow"—in his hometown of Tarkio, Missouri. Obernolte was one of the earliest owners of an Embraer Phenom 100 and later upgraded to the Embraer Phenom 300 that he now flies from his home in California to Washington, D.C. Graves, who is retiring from Congress after 26 years and has chaired the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee since 2023, says he is proud of the section dedicated to GA in the 2024 FAA reauthorization—which had never been done before. "For the first time ever, we put a general aviation title, which means an entire section of the bill, was devoted to general aviation, and fixing all of these problems that we see in general aviation—that's probably one of the biggest accomplishments that I have been able to do in my time in Congress," said Graves. “If you’ve got to go back to Congress and get something done, get it done.” — @captainsteeeve We agree. When the @ntsbgov recommends a safety change, the starting point should be how to put it into action. The @faa and Congress must make those protections a priority. Our 67 loved ones should have come home. We are fighting to make sure the lessons from their deaths become lasting changes that protect other families. @bryan_bedford_faa implement the remaining 33 NTSB recommendations. Two calls. Every day. @SpeakerJohnson : 202-225-4000 Leader @RepJeffries : 202-225-4700 Congress: finish the negotiations. Bring the strongest aviation safety bill to a vote. Get it done. “Don’t lose sight of the human toll in all of this.” — Captain Steeve We carry that toll every single day. Sixty-seven people were supposed to have more time. More birthdays. More ordinary days with the people who loved them. Entire futures disappeared that night. Thank you, Captain Steeeve, for reminding people who is at the heart of this fight. We cannot bring our loved ones home. But we can keep fighting for accountability and protections that help bring yours home safely. #Congress: finish the aviation safety bill. Get it signed into law. Honor these lives with action. Watch. Share. Add your voice. Two calls every day. Even on the weekend. @SpeakerJohnson : 202-225-4000 Leader @RepJeffries : 202-225-4700 #FamiliesOfFlight5342 #SaferSkiesForAll #AviationSafety

Pass an aviation safety bill now @SpeakerJohnson @RepJeffries
THE HEADLINES MAY FADE. THE WARNINGS HAVEN’T STOPPED. Listen to this. On October 20 at St. Louis Lambert, a controller repeatedly ordered a plane to STOP after clearing it for takeoff while another aircraft approached the same runway. The FAA says the plane stopped before entering the runway and required separation was maintained. Everyone made it home. Our 67 loved ones did not. Near misses may not command the national attention they did a year ago. That does not mean the danger has disappeared or that Congress can afford to wait. How many more warnings do we need? We need a strong, bipartisan aviation safety bill NOW. Act before another tragedy forces more families to fight for changes that should already have been made. Make two calls today: Speaker Johnson: 202-225-4000 Leader Jeffries: 202-225-4700 Tell them: “Finish the deal. Pass an aviation safety bill now.” #FamiliesOfFlight5342 #SaferSkiesForAll
