A French-Lebanese man has filed a legal complaint in the French National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office PNAT, accusing Israeli occupation forces of uprooting 600 family-owned olive trees in Zawtar al-Sharqiyeh, South Lebanon. ￭ According to the complaint reviewed by AFP, some of the trees were up to 500 years old, on land cultivated by his family for around 250 years. ￭ The complaint mentions that the destruction amounts to war crimes, asserting that “there was no evidence that Hezbollah was using the family’s home or agricultural fields for military purposes”. ￭ The destruction of olive trees is part of a much wider attack on Lebanon’s agricultural sector. According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Agriculture, around 6,600 hectares of olive trees were damaged or destroyed, and 56,264 hectares of agricultural land were affected by May 2026. ￭ A joint assessment by Lebanon’s Ministry of Agriculture and CNRS-L, supported by FAO, UNDP and WFP and released on June 17, 2026, estimated agricultural production losses from the Israel war on Lebanon to be $530.5 million, affecting 56,320 hectares.
