Nyabuhikye–Kikyenkye Gravity Flow Scheme: Another White Elephant?
In 2018,
@GovUganda launched the UGX21 billion project to provide water to over 135,000 people in parts of Ibanda and Kazo Districts.
Eight years later, the project is incomplete, all we see are abandoned tanks at kanoni subcounty headquarters serving no purpose without pipes, just being vandalised . Taxpayers money was spent but the people got empty abandoned tanks!
On 3 January 2024, in our meeting with H.E. President
@KagutaMuseveni , in Rwakitura, the President directly called PSST Dr
@rggoobi and Minister of State for Water
@HonSekindi Aisha, who committed to resolve the matter. But todate, Kazo still has no water.
The President said he did not want to “mock the people of Kazo” — “Tindikwenda kunegura abantu ba Kazo ameizi.”
So what is stopping the
@min_waterUg from delivering on this project? Who is accountable for this failure? And where is the value for taxpayers’ UGX21 billion? Why are the people at Ministry of Water undermining the President? And whose interests are they serving? And most importantly why would a single project take 8 years without being completed?
The people of Kazo deserve answers—and water!
