Prof. @gsachdevajnu, Centre for European Studies, @JNU_official_50, highlighted energy transition, connectivity, evolving trade regimes as important factors influencing the future trajectory of globalisation. Mr. @Abhijit_trade, International Trade Expert and Former Head, @CWS_iift emphasised the importance of coalition-building among developing countries and ensuring that WTO reforms preserve their negotiating space and collective voice. Dr. @Prabir_India, Professor, RIS, called for revitalising South Asian regional mechanisms and leveraging trade, diplomacy and regional cooperation to support inclusive development. The Global South has found its voice. Now can it deliver? As the BRICS Summit in New Delhi coincides with the UN Day for South-South Cooperation, the focus must now shift from voice to delivery. In our latest article in @timesofindia, Dr @RajanRatna and I explore how South-South Cooperation can move from shared concerns to shared, scalable solutions. Key Highlights: 1. South-South Cooperation needs to evolve from individual projects to scalable, replicable solutions. 2. India’s development partnership experience offers a model centred on country ownership, mutual benefit, capacity building and sharing solutions. 3. The next phase of cooperation must connect knowledge, technology, finance and market access. 4. Triangular cooperation can strengthen these efforts by bringing together the capabilities of the Global South, developed countries and multilateral institutions. Research Meets Policy: From Ideas to Action India’s maritime sector is undergoing a significant transformation, guided by the Government’s vision under MIV 2030 and MAKV 2047. As Hon’ble Minister Shri @sarbanandsonwal has emphasized, bringing academia, policy and maritime strategy together is essential to building a future-ready maritime ecosystem. It is in this context that RIS and CMEC are engaging with emerging issues shaping India’s maritime future, including the tokenisation of maritime assets and fractional ship ownership. The RIS Discussion Paper, “Tokenisation of Maritime Assets: Solutions for Fractional Ship Owning”, examines this emerging area and its potential relevance for India’s maritime industry. Read here: lnkd.in/gYFKUxpD Following the publication, RIS engaged with stakeholders across the maritime sector, collated and analysed their perspectives, and convened a dedicated brainstorming session to take the conversation forward. Building on the paper, brainstorming session was convened bringing together a wide cross-section of the maritime ecosystem. Representatives from four key Ministries/Departments: DEA, MEA, MoPSW and MeitY participated alongside regulators, maritime institutions, shipowners representing around 60–70% of India’s fleet ownership, and experts from industry, technology, law and finance. Nearly 8 hours of deliberation brought perspectives from policy, regulation, finance, industry, technology and research around an emerging area of maritime finance. Some openings do more than begin a Forum - they set its direction. The BRICS Civil Forum 2026, organised by @RIS_NewDelhi, began with an address by Shri Sudhakar Dalela (@SudhakarDalela), Secretary (ER) and India's BRICS Sherpa, Ministry of External Affairs (@MEAIndia), India. It was particularly meaningful to have India’s BRICS Sherpa open a Forum focused on bringing civil society into the BRICS process. Shri Dalela’s first-hand engagement with BRICS negotiations brought a valuable perspective to the conversations ahead. One message from his address particularly stayed with me: civil society is a core and enduring pillar of BRICS cooperation. Equally important was his emphasis on what comes after dialogue, turning ideas into partnerships, and partnerships into tangible outcomes for communities. This resonates strongly with the spirit of India’s BRICS Chairship “Humanity First, People First.” With more than 300 of the 400+ meetings planned under India’s Chairship already completed, the scale of engagement has been remarkable. Under India’s BRICS Chairship in 2026, @RIS_NewDelhi hosted the BRICS Civil Forum 2026 on the theme, "Localising Development for Resilience, Innovation and Sustainability." The Forum brought together nearly 80 civil society organisations and institutions from across BRICS countries, creating a platform for diverse experiences, ideas and perspectives on shared development challenges. The Forum also brought young voices into the conversation, with more than 350 participants from leading Indian universities. The two-day Forum featured discussions across seven Working Groups: Health, Culture, Education, Finance, Ecology, Cyber & Information Security, Advanced and Emerging Technologies & AI, and Entrepreneurship & Social Welfare. Alongside these discussions, we also had a cultural programme showcasing India’s diverse cultural heritage. I sincerely thank the Ministry of External Affairs, India @MEAIndia, for entrusting RIS with the responsibility of organising the BRICS Civil Forum 2026. The success of this Forum lies in the people behind it.
