This week’s summit between President Trump and General Secretary Xi represents an important opportunity to hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable for providing Iran with satellite data it used to target the American military in the Middle East, buying Iranian oil and selling semiconductors used in Iranian weapons. It also represents an opportunity to reinforce deterrence in the Western Pacific by standing by the $11.1 billion in arms sales to Taiwan announced by the Trump Administration in 2025 and not backing off the additional $14 billion in arms sales to Taiwan presently under consideration.

Better Markets, a left-wing organization supported by Elizabeth Warren, has filed a frivolous and meritless lawsuit against @federalreserve Vice Chair of Supervision Michelle Bowman for her thoughtful bank capital proposal, which is set to replace a deeply flawed Biden-era proposal which would have, if enacted, forced large American banks to hold up to 19% more common equity tier 1 capital, placing them at a severe competitive disadvantage relative to their international counterparts and reduced annual U.S. economic output by nearly $70 billion. Far from deviating from the the notice and comment requirements of the Administrative Procedures Act, Vice Chair Bowman’s re-proposal actually takes into account those comments, recognizes that American banks are already well capitalized, focuses on the actual risk of individual activities and eliminates duplicative capital charges. The Fed should not be intimidated by this politically motivated lawsuit which is clearly designed to derail the finalization of the Basel III Endgame rule-making process. Five Americans with ties to our Commonwealth died on September 11, 2001. Today, I ask for all of Kentucky to join me in remembering them and praying for their families. Here is a little bit about each of them: John Charles Jenkins — Kenton County Born in Erlanger, John worked as a corporate services manager for Charles River Associates. He was killed aboard American Airlines Flight 11. Brian “Willie” Williams — Kenton County An Edgewood native and Covington Catholic graduate, Brian was a broker for Cantor Fitzgerald in the North Tower. Friends described him as the unofficial tour guide of New York for Kentuckians visiting the Big Apple. He was 29 years old. PO1 Edward T. Earhart — Rowan County A proud U.S. Navy Sailor from Morehead, PO1 Earhart worked at the Pentagon that morning despite being scheduled for vacation. He was helping out a friend and he was serving his country. He was just 26 years old. Virginia “Ginger” Ormiston — Kentucky native Ginger built a successful career in New York and was remembered by friends for her warmth, energy, and contagious joy. She was killed while working in the North Tower. Ronald Gamboa — Louisville A Trinity High School graduate, Ronald built a career in retail and was a manager for Gap in Santa Monica.
