It was an honor to welcome VA Secretary Doug Collins to Virginia’s First District for a roundtable with local leaders, veterans, and Puller Clinic attorneys and students. We had a productive discussion about strengthening the veterans benefits process, reducing claim backlogs and wait times, expanding access to community care, and ensuring veterans receive the care and benefits they have earned. Our veterans deserve the very best, and I will continue working to ensure they and their families receive the support they deserve.

As a lifelong hunter and fisherman, preserving America's outdoor traditions has long remained one of my top priorities. The executive orders released last night advance priorities I have championed in Congress. My House-passed Protecting Access for Hunters and Anglers Act protects the use of traditional lead ammunition and fishing tackle on federal lands and waters unless restrictions are supported by science. The executive order advances that same goal by directing federal agencies to review restrictions on ammunition and tackle. The President's action to establish a Shark and Pinniped Depredation Task Force also builds on my bipartisan SHARKED Act, which would improve coordination between fisheries, scientists, and anglers to improve research and responses to shark depredation. These are important steps toward preserving access, supporting responsible conservation, and ensuring Americans can continue to enjoy the great outdoors.

I was proud to cosponsor the Ratepayer Protection Act to help ensure data centers, not Virginia families and small businesses, cover the cost of the system upgrades needed to meet their energy demands. America’s national and economic security depends on our ability to develop the critical minerals we have here at home. Earth MRI provides the geological data we need to understand where these resources are located and unlock their potential. Reauthorizing the Earth MRI program would strengthen American mineral supply chains, support domestic production, and reduce our dangerous dependence on foreign adversaries like China. 🌊 @RobWittman's Advancing Water Research and Collaboration (AWRC) Act of 2025 bolsters research and education initiatives designed to improve the scientific understanding, management and sustainability of the nation’s water resources. It reauthorizes the Water Resources Research Act of 1984, which implements and helps fund these initiatives at universities.

Today, the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Advancement for Training, Education, Restoration, and Science (WATERS) Act passed the House. This legislation would ensure the Chesapeake Bay remains healthy for generations to come. I was proud to co-lead this bill alongside Representatives Bobby Scott, Jen Kiggans, and Sarah Elfreth. Today, my bipartisan Advancing Water Research and Collaboration (AWRC) Act passed on the floor of the House. This legislation would strengthen university-based research to help states address their unique water challenges and better manage our nation’s water resources. The decisions Congress makes over the next several years will determine whether the United States can deter conflict, whether our industrial base can support a prolonged crisis, whether we can field new technologies faster than our adversaries, and whether the men and women serving our nation have what they need to return home safely. I enjoyed visiting Alliance Machine & Engraving in Ashland to tour their facility and hear directly from their team. Advanced manufacturers like Alliance are creating skilled jobs, driving innovation, and strengthening American-made manufacturing right here in Virginia. I am proud that my bill, the Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act, was signed into law so that 529 savings accounts can be used by students to obtain certifications and technical degrees — allowing them to contribute to the skilled workforce and choose an educational pathway that works for them.

I recently visited the Virginia Department of Corrections to learn firsthand how they are implementing reentry programs. VADOC aims to provide individuals with health and rehabilitative services to help set them on track to contribute to their communities. Together, we must continue to support programs to improve reentry outcomes and encourage community engagement.
