The @WaysandMeansGOP held a hearing on the impact of rising health care costs on patients and families.  We have to have serious reform of health insurers, pharmacy benefit managers, and their subsidiaries to reduce the cost of healthcare.

It was a pleasure meeting with the pastors of Koinonia Christian Center to discuss their ministry and the work they are doing to serve families and strengthen our community. I’m grateful for their leadership and commitment to Eastern North Carolina.

We are closely tracking the nor’easter that is expected to bring major coastal flooding, damaging winds, heavy rain, dangerous surf, and rip currents from the Carolinas through New England this weekend. State and local officials are leading readiness efforts, while DHS and @fema stand ready to support. We will stay in close contact with state and local authorities as they respond to the storm. If you are in the affected states, stay informed and make sure to follow directions from your local officials. Stay out of dangerous surf and flooded areas, plan to find safe shelter, and prepare for possible power outages. Strong, informed leadership is critical for public safety. It was a pleasure to join @ECUHealthNC for Aortic Awareness Day alongside the @JohnRitterFdn and families whose lives have been impacted by aortic emergencies. It's important to raise awareness and support for patients and families navigating life after an aortic emergency.

It was a pleasure to visit the Greenville Fire/Rescue Department headquarters for a tour and to meet with our local firefighters. Thank you to Chief Jeremy Anderson and the team for your selfless service to our community and for putting yourselves in harm's way to keep us safe.

This week, we pause to honor our Gold Star Families. These families carry the weight of unimaginable loss so that America can remain free and strong. Their loved ones gave everything in service to our nation. We will never forget their sacrifice.

Expanding access to quality health care in Eastern North Carolina means bringing care closer to the people who need it. Adoption can be a life-changing blessing, but the cost can be a significant barrier for families ready to open their homes to a child. The Working Families Tax Cuts make the Adoption Tax Credit more accessible by. making up to $5,000 of the credit refundable and indexed to inflation.

I met with @butterball to discuss the issues facing turkey producers, including animal health, agricultural labor, and trade. North Carolina’s agriculture industry is an important part of our state’s economy, and I’ll continue working to support our farmers, producers, and agricultural communities.

I appreciated meeting with leaders from @TheCCUL to discuss their legislative priorities that will expand access to lending, modernize financial reporting, combat senior fraud, and promote homeownership.   I’ll continue working to strengthen our financial system and expand opportunities for families and communities.

I met with leaders from @NCPDP to discuss the Every Dollar Counts Act and their recommendations for strengthening the legislation. I appreciate their expertise and advocacy as we work to improve prescription drug access and affordability for patients.

Those who blame the Docs for the No Surprises Act issues are sadly misinformed. There are bad apples, and they need to be addressed, but when the IDR process rules for the Docs 80-90% of the time and the Insurance companies still don’t pay, ask Willie Sutton where the problem is.
