🇺🇸BREAKING: White House blames big banks for killing the CLARITY Act over fears stablecoins would drain their deposits. White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt says opposition to the bill was "a wildfire that was started by larger banks that ultimately spread to community banks." He says Trump was willing to divest his crypto or place it in a blind trust, calling it the most restrictive ethics provision "that has ever been agreed to by any president." Witt called the attacks on Trump "somewhat ironic," given that "a lot of senators on banking committees" actively trade stocks in the financial companies they regulate.

Yes. If it is where you will live with your family, then don’t treat it as financial investment. If you can afford the payment without sacrificing lifestyle, then don’t pass on a house you love to save $100 K.

Here we go again! The WSJ is working on a story blaming Coinbase and me personally for the CLARITY Act not passing. The Journal has repeatedly been hostile to CLARITY in its reporting, regurgitating bank lobby talking points, while I’ve spent years pushing for crypto legislation, but that’s not stopping them from trying to reverse the blame. The boring TLDR: in January I opposed a draft of the bill going into a committee vote, because it needed a lot of work on DeFi, tokenization, CFTC authority, and stablecoin rewards. At the time, the bill had major issues that would have harmed crypto. Support was fractured, and it wasn’t passable. We worked with a number of parties who improved the bill and made it passable. All four of the items I called out were fixed in the draft that then went through the committee about four months later. I'm proud to have done it, and would do it again, because it helped create a better bill. One step of many along the way. The final draft of CLARITY that went to the Senate was great, and I strongly supported it. I'll continue showing up for our customers and pushing for clear rules that treat crypto fairly, even if those who feel threatened by crypto try to plant false stories. It's a shame that the WSJ takes direction from bank lobbyists instead of reporting the truth, but luckily, people are smart enough to see through it these days, and it backfires on them every time.

Congrats to Democrats on picking a fight with America and crypto at the same time. They are celebrating the Clarity Act stalling and they have no idea what they just did. Crypto has spent fifteen years getting told no, sued, banned in half the world, called a scam, and it came out bigger every single time. Same goes for this country, actually. Both America and crypto get stronger when somebody tries to hold them down. So democrats, congrats on the vote, but all you did was remind everybody why this thing exists in the first place. Crypto and America have never lost a fight like this, and they're not about to start now. Resilience, ingenuity, and crypto in America will win.

No disrespect to the U.S., but people need to remember they don't have a monopoly on crypto. Whether the CLARITY Act passes now or takes another year, the rest of the world isn't sitting around waiting for Washington. Europe, Asia, the Middle East... regulation, adoption and infrastructure are still moving forward. It's a big fucking world out there. The U.S. is a major player, absolutely, but it's not the whole game. Crypto is global. The rest of the world will keep soldiering on, and so will the markets.

Elizabeth Warren and the Democrats blocked the Clarity Act because they’d rather obsess over President Trump’s personal finances than establish the necessary guardrails to secure American leadership in digital assets. Even though @POTUS and Senate Republicans have negotiated with them for months in good faith, they couldn’t take off their TDS-tinted glasses to even debate or improve the bill. The choice in front of us is simple: create a market structure for digital assets at home to protect Americans’ involvement in the industry or watch Americans risk their money in unsafe foreign countries led by less than noble leaders. American financial innovation and ingenuity must be protected by an American legal framework. Given Democrats’ obstruction, the administration should use its authority to finalize appropriate market structures for investors in digital assets.

Thank God the clarity act is dead. I’m sick of hearing about it. In a couple years the government bozos will realize they needed bitcoin, it never has or will need them.

I voted NO to advance the Clarity Act because it fails to rein in the President's rampant corruption, letting him and his family continue amassing billions from unethical crypto ventures. I've long called for real guardrails on cryptocurrency to restore Americans' trust in our political institutions and ensure no federal official can profit from their position of power. I cannot support legislation that falls short of that goal.

I wonder how much taxpayer dollars are being wasted on the petty bickering going back-and-forth between Democrats and Republicans about clarity We fund their salaries
The CLARITY Act didn't advance in the Senate today, which was a disappointment. While it's possible bi-partisan conversations continue and it lives to fight another day, we can't wait on Congress anymore. The SEC and CFTC have the tools they need to create clear rules under existing authority, and I expect will begin working on this in earnest. So clarity is coming to crypto regardless. And of course GENIUS is already the law of the land for stablecoins, which is even more permissive on rewards. There were some concessions we made on CLARITY that were tough to swallow, so perhaps it's for the best. Crypto can't be uninvented. With clarity emerging through the regulators, we'll continue updating the financial system.

I oppose this legislation because I worry that the passage of inadequate cryptocurrency regulation will give Americans a false sense of security and fail to protect consumers from the corruption, fraud, and money laundering that is all too rampant in this industry.
The Senate failed to advance a major cryptocurrency regulation bill because Democrats blocked the measure over concerns that it does not go far enough to stop federal officials’ digital asset dealings, including President Trump’s. wapo.st/4yJpyFA

This afternoon, Senate Democrats proved they were never truly serious about protecting consumers and preserving American leadership. I sat at the table with Senate Democrats working in good faith to get this done while they played games. For over a year, they presented demands and the second we met them, they made new demands and moved the goal posts. Today they voted against real limitations on politicians’ personal crypto investments. They voted against protecting American consumers from the scammers and fraudsters this bill would have shut down. They voted against American leadership, and handed China and every one of our foreign competitors exactly what they wanted. Democrats chose politics over the American people—again. That’s not leadership on their part, that’s surrender to their radical, socialist base. The once-proud Democratic party is anti-consumer and pro-illicit finance, anti-ethics, anti-free enterprise, anti-worker, anti-livable wage jobs, and pro-socialism. The Democrats are now anti-American. Sad!
