Honestly, this whole thing is about people who can’t really understand a difference between power and authority.
It’s defenders are a cliche: lots of mildly autistic, pimply 25-year-old converts with frog avatars and YouTube shows about The Jews, who think the Church fathers “invented” the concepts of “male headship” and “submission” to give them the power to harangue eligible bachelorettes about wearing leggings. They see it as *power* to wield over the “feminists” they’ve come to hate (in which “feminist” means any woman who believes they have individual agency to refuse their condemnation).
But what Christ gave men was *authority,* which isn’t taken, but earned. Yes, men lead their families, but it’s a position of responsibility. If your child falls away from the faith, if you’ve improperly formed your family, if you can’t lead your family effectively in love, it’s your ass on the line. Protecting modesty takes on a different tack when you’re taking your postpartum wife to the bathroom or helping your young daughter make decisions about her wardrobe, rather than complaining on line that women wear jeans and have drivers licenses.
Christ is love. He will always be love. Radical love. Look at the way he spoke to women like Martha and Mary, unthinkable in His own time. He doesn’t give power, He demands conversion. Catholicism isn’t some internet meme. It’s a life of service in humility to the Will of God, with eyes to Heaven.
If a man posts things like this, it is often a sign that he has control issues.
It is generally a good idea to set firm boundaries and avoid forming close relationships with people who believe they are entitled to control you through shame, fear, and spiritual manipulation.
Believe me when I say that you do not want that kind of behavior in a marriage.
