From the day Carney was sworn in through July, Ottawa signed $25 billion in contracts. The raw list says $22.4 billion went to Canadian companies and $1.2 billion to American ones. That list counts a US subsidiary in Toronto as Canadian. Once you count the parent, the Star puts American-controlled contracts at $7.8 billion, against $14.9 billion for Canadian firms. The share going south is up 11 points. Not a rounding error. The policy he keeps naming started in December. Thirty-four contracts have gone through it. $1.5 billion. The same week, LNG Canada's expansion is buying Chinese steel and he answered with a different pipeline. The podium says buy Canadian. The purchase order says whoever answered the phone.
