BOSTON, MA — U.S. Senate candidate @DeatonforSenate today criticized @EdMarkey for staying silent as @MassGovernor signed a 20-year sales and use tax exemption for qualified data centers, a 2024 incentive tied to a $50 million investment threshold.
“Governor Healey gave data centers a 20-year tax break, and Senator Markey said nothing,” Deaton said.
“Massachusetts families already pay some of the highest electricity rates in the country. Corporate operators get the deal. Ratepayers get the bill.”
The exemption remains on the books even after Healey later paused applications amid concerns over energy costs, water use, and community impact. Eligibility includes at least 100,000 square feet of space, 100 Massachusetts jobs within five years, and $50 million in qualified costs within 10 years.
Deaton said he supports technology, not one-sided giveaways. Developers should bring their own power, pay for infrastructure, and win real local consent.
“After 50 years in Washington, Markey was silent when it counted,” Deaton said. “Massachusetts needs a senator who puts working families first.”

@GOPMajorityWhip I said it and I meant it, but I also said we needed a strong ethics provision or it wouldn’t pass. The reason the bill failed was the president’s corruption and a GOP Congress all too comfortable with it. We get meaningful ethics, we pass Clarity. One man’s greed stands in the way.

Plus, we get to keep stablecoin yield that the banks were all so concerned with.

Today, I voted no on the Clarity Act, legislation meant to regulate cryptocurrency in America.
The ethics provisions in this bill are simply too thin. President Trump, his children, and his Cabinet are making billions of dollars in the crypto space, in part from bilking everyday Americans out of their hard-earned money. I cannot in good conscience vote for any legislation that codifies that behavior from public officials. Not for President Trump or Secretary Lutnick today, nor for any Democrat who may take advantage of it in the future.
On the national security front, there is more to be done to make sure we have the tools in place to stop money laundering and shut down funding avenues for terrorists and nations like North Korea and Iran. This was essential after 9/11 and remains essential to keep Americans safe.
And as of now, our agencies, including the CFTC, lack the necessary oversight and staffing to implement this legislation, and that should be addressed.
There are strong, bipartisan provisions in this bill that could serve as the foundation for a new attempt at providing the crypto industry with the guardrails it needs. I believe that the U.S. should lead the world in cryptocurrency innovation, but we need to get it right. I remain open-minded to that work ahead.

Dear senator, with respect, your knowledge or advisers have given you a royal bum steer.
Cryptocurrency in its current for is corrupt, and money laundering occurs because most guardrails reject anything related to crypto so projects resort to direct crypto use without guardrails.
I speak from experience, banking system rejects crypto related project payments, e.g. to pay by credit card for say crypto related services. So I resort to crypto only payments.
Even central bank paper money was used for all sorts of crimes like counterfeiting, and bank robberies when the baking system was new.
To reject it like this shows your lack of understanding of what your constituents want.
Your post will likely mean your political career is over. Best of luck.

1/ This one stings. Our team gave everything we had to get the Clarity Act across the finish line. So did most of the industry. This was an opportunity bigger than Ripple or one company - we did this for the industry, for consumers and to cement the US’s position as the crypto capital of the world and as a leader in the future of finance. Ultimately, consumers and U.S. competitiveness got left behind.
2/ A post mortem needs to be done on why this failed (more from me on that in the days ahead). The politics of the democrats (the anti-crypto army) was elevated over good policy.
3/ There is still reason for optimism for crypto in the United States. Now, the SEC, under Chair Atkins, and the CFTC, under Chair Selig, will continue to work hard to issue rules to fill the legislative gap and we will continue to be actively engaged in that rule making process.
4/ Ripple's business has never been stronger — real demand across traditional finance and the digital asset ecosystem. A missed vote in Washington doesn't change our momentum, our global footprint, or our customers.
