After more than a year in detention without a conclusive trial on the charges of allegedly stealing a smartphone and a jumper in Lwengo, 2 of the 4 civilian bodyguards of President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu @HEBobiwine—Gaddafi Mugumya and Smart Grace Wakabi—are finally reuniting with their families after the Masaka High Court granted bail of Shs 5 million cash to each of them.
The other two, Eddie Mutwe and Archilleo Kivumbi, will remain in custody over separate charges before the Kanyanya Magistrate’s Court in Kawempe Division, where they are accused of participating in an unlawful military drill.
We extend our sincere appreciation to our team of lawyers, including our Secretary for Legal Affairs at @NUP_Ug National Executive Committee (NEC), @elotu_jonathan; @sam_muyizzi; the twin lawyers, @KakuruTumusiime & @TumusiimeKato & many others who have worked tirelessly on this case.
We also thank our NUP secretariat led by @DavidLRubongoya, Comrades in the Diaspora, the families of the detained comrades, and all our supporters who have stood with them throughout this long and difficult period of detention.

Israel's leading human rights group describes the deliberate ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from growing parts of the occupied West Bank.
Israel is displacing entire Palestinian communities, while new Israeli outposts are being established at an unprecedented pace. Settler militias are taking control of vast areas, and military operations have displaced tens of thousands from refugee camps in the northern West Bank.
These incidents form part of an escalating process of ethnic cleansing of Palestinian communities and the takeover of Palestinian land carried out through a coordinated system involving political leaders, government authorities, the military, the police and settler militias, backed by Israel’s legal and law enforcement systems.
This process pushes Palestinians from their land into rapidly shrinking spaces, deliberately cut off from each another, while establishing, expanding and reinforcing Jewish-Israeli control.
The methods Israel uses to intimidate and displace Palestinians are varied. Homes and other structures are demolished, while entire communities are forcibly displaced from their land by the violence of settler militias, supported by state authorities. The state also carries out military campaigns and attacks that have displaced and expelled tens of thousands of Palestinians from refugee camps in the West Bank.
This decades-long process has accelerated under the current government. Between 2023 and 2025, 185 new settlement outposts were established, about 130 of them farms. Settler militias using these outposts as bases now control more than 1.07 million dunams, or 18% of the West Bank. 65 Palestinian communities have been completely displaced, and 18 others have been partially displaced.

The plain truth is that even if Dr. @kizzabesigye1 were minded to negotiate, and there is no indication that he is, he is far too ill to do so. The Government knows this. He lies in a hospital (JCRC) under military guard. His life is at stake. Releasing him on medical grounds requires no negotiation, no deal, and no political concession. Grave illness is a recognised ground for bail, and the Constitution guarantees him humane treatment and the presumption of innocence. The law does not merely permit his release; it demands it. Every day of delay is a choice, and the State will own its consequences.

Today, 2 UPDF officers pleaded guilty of staging a bomb at Kalerwe and one at Munyonyo which exploded and killed a woman on bodaboda.
Between 2014-2022, ISO, CMI and police led by criminals Kaka Bagyenda, Abel Kandiho and Kale Kayihura respectively abducted, disappeared, tortured, shot on spot and charged several opposition supporters and Muslim clerics accusing them of allegedly belonging to ADF rebel group.
