Reports that the Army is preparing military police, medical and logistics units for possible action in the Caribbean within the next four months should alarm every member of Congress. The President speaking openly about "taking Cuba” isn’t a foreign policy, it’s a threat! Our Constitution gives Congress, not the President, the power to take this country to war. If this administration is planning an unjustified military action against Cuba, it must come to Congress first and make its case to the American people. Our service members, their families, and the American people deserve that honesty, and so do the Cuban people!

Ranking Member @RepGregoryMeeks met with the President of Guyana, Irfaan Ali, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly High Level Week. Ranking Member Meeks reaffirmed the strong U.S.-Guyana partnership, and congratulated President Ali on the one-year anniversary of his reelection. The Ranking Member underscored steadfast U.S. support for Guyana's territorial integrity against threats to the Essequibo region and commended President Ali's leadership within CARICOM and across the Western Hemisphere. The two discussed ways to elevate the U.S.-Guyana relationship, deepen bilateral cooperation, and advanced shared priorities in the region.

Ranking Member @RepGregoryMeeks met with Filipino Secretary of Foreign Affairs Theresa Lazaro on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly High Level Week. The Ranking Member underscored strong bipartisan support for the U.S.-Philippines alliance in Congress and the United States’ commitment to the Mutual Defense Treaty with the Philippines in the South China Sea. The leaders discussed impacts of the war in Iran, as well as the economic and trade relationship between the United States and the Philippines. The Ranking Member thanked the Foreign Minister for the Philippines’ effective chairmanship of ASEAN and its continued cooperation with U.S. allies and partners in the region.

When I asked Ambassador Mike Waltz during a @HouseForeign hearing whether the Trump administration’s sanctions were choking off fuel and resources to Cuba, he waved off my questions as “Cuban propaganda.” Now @nytimes confirms what we’ve known for months. The Trump administration’s own policy has left thousands of containers of food, medicine, and other goods stranded across the Caribbean, as shipping companies halt deliveries rather than risk Washington’s sanctions. The aid piling up in ports ranges from solar panels to medication to colostomy bags, and includes cancer drug shipments this administration forced @WHO to cancel.
