🚨PSA: Designers on @solana🚨 Solana is starting to move faster than the UX being built on top of it. And I think a lot of product designers and builders are missing what that actually means. Mainnet slot times just dropped from 400ms → 350ms. The target is 200ms... Block capacity has increased from 60M → 100M compute units. V1 transactions are coming with a max transaction size moving from 1,232 → 4,096 bytes. This sounds like infrastructure news. But it isn't. It's product news. Because if you're building on Solana, the chain is increasingly not the thing making your app feel like crypto. Your UX is. A few things I think product designers and teams should be thinking about: 1. Kill the crypto waiting room Loading screen. Wallet popup. Approve. Loading screen. Transaction hash. "Success!" Nobody wants this! As the chain gets faster, these artificial pauses become more obvious. Users care that something happened. They don't need a ceremony every time state changes. 2. Design around intent, not transactions The user doesn't want to: swap ... approve ... deposit ... stake ... confirm. They want to: "Earn on my $SOL" Better infrastructure and larger transactions give us more room to compress complex onchain actions into simple product decisions. That's a massive UX unlock. 3. The wallet should become infrastructure Seed phrases and constant wallet interruptions shouldn't be the defining interface of an onchain product. Teams like @privy_io are already pushing embedded wallet UX. @heliuslabs is abstracting huge amounts of data/RPC complexity. The Solana developer stack keeps getting easier. The best apps should increasingly feel like products first and blockchain interfaces second. 4. "Real-time onchain" becomes an actual design primitive Trading, multiplayer games, payments, prediction markets, social apps, AI agents. When latency collapses, you stop designing around refreshes and confirmations and start designing around continuous interaction. And if 200ms still isn't enough, teams like @magicblock are already pushing Solana applications into sub-50ms territory. That's where things get interesting. 5. Spend the performance gains on better experiences Faster infrastructure doesn't mean we need the same apps, just 200ms faster. It means we can build products that previously made no sense onchain. Think less: "How do we put this crypto primitive in a nicer interface?" More: "What becomes possible when money, identity, ownership and execution can all move at internet speed?" That second question is where I think the next generation of Solana products comes from. Credit to teams like @anza_xyz, @solana_devs and everyone working down at the protocol level. They are steadily removing constraints from the canvas. Now the pressure moves up the stack. 200ms blocks won't make your app good. They just remove one of your best excuses for making it feel bad.
