Research Scientist – you will join the EdgeRunner Research organization to train models, evaluate AI systems and harnesses, and bring world-class AI to the warfighter. A PhD in a relevant field is preferred, but we will also consider relevant research experience from time in industry, military, or government.
ML Engineer – you will build the foundations of the EdgeRunner Research organization. Behind every successful model is code for data acquisition, data processing, model evaluation, efficient parallelization, high-performance kernels, low-loss quantization and compression, and much more.
Candidates must be eligible to receive a TS/SCI clearance, and strong candidates will have an active clearance. Under federal law, U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

We're excited to announce EdgeRunner-Camo, a new domain-specific LLM for the warfighter from EdgeRunner AI developed in collaboration with @USArmyAI (AI2C).
EdgeRunner-Camo achieves a 37% reduction in error rates across personnel, logistics, training, policy, weapons, and tactics, demonstrating how domain-specific LLMs can improve operational effectiveness.
Domain specialization, including for military functional areas, allows us to shrink model sizes by 10x and more while still achieving frontier-level accuracy on military tasks. Such efficiency is important not only for enabling edge deployment on each warfighter’s local hardware, but also for radically decreasing costs when hosting AI solutions in server-client architectures.
The work presented in this blog post represents our initial efforts with this dataset and use case. EdgeRunner-Camo is well suited as a generalist virtual assistant for the Army that can be deployed in-garrison on a wide variety of inference architectures or in the field at the tactical edge using EdgeRunner’s optimized inference runners.

AI for warfighter must be military-specific, designed to run locally on-device, owned and controlled by the warfighter–not the big AI labs and hyperscalers.
Today, @POTUS signed a National Security Presidential Memorandum on AI in the national security enterprise. The men and women who defend our nation deserve the best, most secure, and most reliable AI in the world, and our citizens deserve to know it is handled responsibly with the care and seriousness they expect.
The NSPM accelerates AI adoption from multiple vendors to prevent single points of failure, updates @DeptofWar’s guidance on autonomy in weapons systems to keep pace with the frontier, and ensures no entity can disable or degrade an AI system our warfighters depend on without prior approval.
Under @POTUS’s leadership, we are putting our AI dominance to work to defend the American people.

We are excited to announce that the US Navy has granted Impact Level 6 Authority to Operate (IL6 ATO) accreditation to EdgeRunner AI, validating our on-device platform for some of the military’s most sensitive and mission-critical operational environments.
EdgeRunner OS has also been officially listed within the Department of the Navy Application and Database Management System (DADMS), the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps’ authoritative enterprise registry for approved IT systems, software applications, and operational technologies.

In our new paper, EDGE-OPD (EviDence GuidEd On-Policy Distillation), we introduce two key ideas for improving On-Policy Distillation (OPD).
First, we use guided rollouts that inject privileged context into a subset of the student’s prompts during generation (such as hints, hidden evidence, or rare personas), allowing rare target behaviors to actually appear in the on-policy data, while masking that privileged information during loss computation.
Second, we introduce an evidence mask that updates the student only on token positions supported by the privileged context, instead of learning from the entire rollout indiscriminately. We show empirically that, together, these mechanisms enable the student to internalize rare but correct behaviors without directly training on the hidden context itself. Beyond the method itself, we also analyze how these rare-token signals localize within specific regions of the rollout, offering new insights into efficient knowledge transfer and preservation of general-purpose capabilities during post-training.
