This mom saved her kids during an EF4 tornado
When a massive tornado leveled her Indiana home, Stephanie Decker had seconds to act. She rushed her two young kids to the basement, wrapped them in a heavy comforter, and tied them together so the 175 mph winds couldn't rip them apart.
Then, she threw her body on top of them.
As the house exploded above them, massive steel beams crashed down, crushing her legs and breaking seven ribs. Trapped and severely injured, she refused to move, acting as a human shield until the storm passed.
Because of her sacrifice, both children walked away without a single scratch.
Stephanie survived, but the injuries cost her both of her legs.
She tied her two young children together in the basement. Then she threw her body on top of them.
A tornado was heading straight for their home.
When it hit, the house collapsed.
Two steel beams crushed Stephanie Decker’s legs. Seven ribs broke. Her legs were almost completely severed.
But underneath her were her two children.
Alive.
Then they realised something horrifying:
Another tornado was coming.
Stephanie couldn’t stand. Couldn’t run. Couldn’t free herself.
So she pulled the blanket over her children, wrapped her arms around them and covered them with her broken body.
Again.
The second tornado passed.
Neither child had even a scratch.
Stephanie survived, but lost both legs.
People called her a hero.
She simply said:
“I call myself a mom.”
