🎉 Excited to share our new paper in Immunity! Can a tissue remember inflammation after the inflammation itself is gone? We find that it can—and that this memory can be stored in an unexpected place: the extracellular matrix (ECM). 🧵👇 cell.com/immunity/abstract/S…

What gives some colorectal cancer cells the ability to metastasize? In our new paper, we find that tumor-intrinsic ceramide synthesis is a metabolic switch for metastatic initiation. 🧵 Free access: science.org/eprint/UAMCP9BAE…

Humans are far more prone to degenerative skeletal diseases than other apes. Our new @Nature paper uncovers the genetic changes that shaped our skeleton and uncovers a major clue to why it is so vulnerable to degeneration.🧵👇 nature.com/articles/s41586-0…

Excited to share our new paper in @NatureGenet! Using spatial transcriptomics and proteomics, we uncover two tumor-wide modes of partial EMT (p-EMT) in head and neck cancer, at the tumor edge or core, with distinct microenvironmental drivers. 🧵 (1/14) nature.com/articles/s41588-0…

Nobel Prize winner Ada Yonath sadly passed away today. She was a legend for her pioneering work on figuring out the structure of ribosomes. “Focus on what you love to do, what you want to know, first of all, or what you want to achieve, or what you want to do. If you want to be a performer, a dancer, it's okay with me, as long as this is really built in, and you can do it well. Courage is very important, but for science, curiosity is not enough, it should come with the courage. Really wish to understand something. If there is no wish like this, and they ask me where will I get the best salary, or I become more famous, or then I have no answer for that.”

And it truly took a village 🌍—this work would not have been possible without our fantastic collaborators from Israel and around the world!

The question this work leaves me thinking about: How much of a tissue’s history is stored outside its cells—and how do stem cells react to it? Very proud of this team and grateful to everyone who made this work possible! 🙏 #Immunity #StemCells #IBD #ECM #Regeneration

Weizmann Institute researchers discover that transient intestinal inflammation can leave irreversible changes in the gut lining, leading to Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. The findings point to new directions for treatment and early detection >> bit.ly/gut-remembers-en @irit_irit @bitonm

Now out in @NatureBiotech ! Do lncRNAs commonly bind 1000s of genomic sites? Maybe they do, but the dozens of studies that report genomic binding maps of lncRNAs are deeply flawed, with probes binding suprious DNA sites rather than RNA-bound ones. nature.com/articles/s41587-0…
A preprint‼️that's bound to ruffle some 🪶 "Widespread DNA off-targeting confounds studies of RNA chromatin occupancy" led by our @MicahGoldrich and Louis Delhaye from @pieter_mestdagh. TL;DR we show that many of lncRNA chromatin occupancy maps are flawed🧵biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
