Today, the House passed the Ratepayer Protection Act to ensure that hardworking, American families aren’t footing the bill for higher energy prices caused by data centers. As Chair of the Energy Subcommittee on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, I was proud to support this bill led by @repgabeevans because the goal is straightforward: data centers should pay their way. In the race to beat Communist China, this is not a choice between American innovation and affordable, reliable energy. We can, and must, have both. I urge the Senate to take up this bill and send it to the President’s desk.

As Co-Chair of the British American Parliamentary Group, I value the strong partnership between the United States and the United Kingdom, and I look forward to continuing our work to strengthen the enduring bond between our two nations.

Technology and AI pose challenges for the grid, but also solutions. Energy Subcommittee Chairman Rep. @BobLatta’s opening remarks correctly note that the grid of the future requires all energy technologies. Advanced transmission technologies will maximize the utility of the current grid, and using AI to manage existing capacity and plan new infrastructure to bring new generation online can accelerate the ability to meet growing demand. Legislation before @HouseCommerce supporting the deployment of these tools represents an important first step.

No family should have to endure the painful loss of a child—let alone due to an overdose that could have been prevented through proper screening and testing. Tyler's law would require @HHSGov to conduct a study and issue guidance to hospital emergency rooms on fentanyl testing, to ensure that families across America will never have to endure the heartache that Tyler’s family did.

✅ ADVANCED: The Ratepayer Protection Act is headed to the House floor. Families shouldn't get a higher electricity bill just because a new data center was built in their community. @HouseCommerce just voted to make sure they don't.

At today’s @HouseCommerce Full Committee markup, a bill I co-led, Tyler’s Law, passed out of committee. Tyler’s Law directs the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to study how frequently hospitals test for fentanyl in overdose patients and, based on those findings, issue guidance to help emergency departments implement fentanyl testing into standard drug screenings. Tyler’s mother, Juli Shamash, has turned an unimaginable loss into tireless advocacy after her son, Tyler, tragically died from an accidental fentanyl overdose. She has worked to help ensure other families do not have to endure the same heartbreak. I was grateful to have Juli with us at today’s markup and will continue working alongside her to get Tyler’s Law across the finish line and signed into law.

At today’s full committee markup, @HouseCommerce passed two of my bills: The Strengthening Tools to Outlaw Poisonous (STOP) Nitazenes Act and Tyler’s Law. These bills will help ensure hospitals and health officials have the tools, data, and authorities they need to respond more effectively to overdoses and keep dangerous substances like nitazenes off our streets.
