Another way to think about Trump announcement today: If he increased US diesel imports from Canada by 4%, he would gain as much fuel as from this Russia deal. But the Canadians are global super-villains, so who wants to buy from them when you could enrich Putin instead?

Your post is a lie Russia is releasing 2.25 million barrels of diesel immediately The US imports 133,000 barrels per day of diesel on average from Canada via @Grok 🔽 Your claim that we could increase our diesel imports by 4% from Canada would equate what were are getting from Russia belies math 4% of what we currently import from Canada it 5320 barrels per day It would take 422 days using Frum's 4% increase to match the first delivery from Russia alone To match the November delivery, it would take another 704 days at your 4% increase level

US exports over 1 million barrels of diesel per day. The US does not need more diesel, we need world market prices to go down. The issue is the world market is under supplied, not the US.

David's Democrat friends cancelled Keystone XL pipeline. Canada has limited refining and oil export capacity because liberal/leftists (like David Frum) did their best to "keep it in the ground". time.com/6072591/keystone-xl…

Canada has treated America so badly. They’ve been ripping you off for years! No wonder Trump turned to Russia. And let’s not forget all the fentanyl pouring in across the northern border.

So in theory Canada could 'flood' the market with diesel, force the price down and make things easier for Trump in the midterms. Maybe bad-mouthing the Canadians wasn't a great move!

Diesel prices are hurting politically with ranchers, truckers & farmers. Not my fault because we are winning in Hormuz. Anyways, I called Putin. We will suspend US sanctions so Russia can get paid $7B. It’s Ukraine’s fault anyways, we had all the cards.

It’s Alberta’s oil, and Canada prevents Alberta from producing it, while simultaneously stealing the cash it generates.

Okay, dumb question but please humour me for a moment… in the UK diesel is now over £2 a litre. Why doesn’t the UK import diesel (or increase import) from our Canadian friends?

SNC Lavalin. Also many Liberal governments buying votes. Also the constant handouts to indigenous bands ... Though that may be more like extortion everywhere other than BC. Canadians are not above bribery.

International fossil fuel markets are very complex, bearing little resemblance to your simplistic caricature. Refined product flows to the U.S. (especially New England via New Brunswick) for logistical and pipeline reasons and at competitive market rates, not at half the prevailing price. Canadian retail/rack prices are also elevated after currency and tax adjustments, with no data showing Canada routinely selling bulk diesel to the U.S. at half the Russian or global rate. The U.S. itself is a major net diesel exporter overall (producing more than it consumes and exporting on the order of 1.5 million barrels per day), while still importing regionally from Canada. (Like I said—complex) Canada’s surplus is real but already largely spoken for and capacity-constrained. Canada is a net diesel exporter and ships a substantial share to the U.S. because of integrated refining and distribution systems. However, Canadian and U.S. refineries have been running near capacity, so there is limited idle surplus available for a sudden large increase.
