Nice list! I'd say maybe the largest omission would be @RiversHaveWings - also can't forget @EMostaque

Hear me out: 110 person list

The strange multiple of 110k is due to the number of fiber optic cables that can be plugged into a central switch

Thanks for the recognition, sir... 🫡 Honestly glad I'm not in the top 10 though! That would be too much attention for comfort...

Genuinely what is Beff’s contribution to any of this, he’s the most boring clown imaginable

love him or hate him, Beff has influenced the current trajectory significantly you had to be there i guess? in 2021 the EAish approach to AI was a unipolar force and Beff lead a counter movement so effective that you don’t even recognize it because it has become the current prevailing paradigm I say this as someone who spent hours arguing with him in Twitter spaces in those days. we don’t see eye to eye, but to say he hasn’t contributed anything is historical ignorance

If Beefy Beff is #6 on the list, that's not a good sign

A lot of low signal noise sources on that list, some solid tallent too, very patchy. It even has at least 3 sociopaths on it, their output is worse than pure noise.

Uh, are you still "independent" if you're running a company? Gwern already plans to launch a new company, so maybe that will be a constraint on his independence. Deepfates is starting a company, too, though I think both he and Gwern are likely to retain their freee spirits.
