To understand why the media propagated the AI doomsayer’s “whistleblower” story - despite NO evidence or live example - you need to understand *how* the media actually operates. The media monetizes mania. Evidence can become “optional” because *attention is everything*. Thus, there’s an incentive to perpetuate a hype cycle: 1. Raise the alarm 2. Capture attention 3. Create a sense of urgency 4. Drive discourse + engagement 5. Repeat That creates a self-reinforcing loop with overly dramatic doom + drama. And THAT is the attention economy. The world is always ~6 months away from a total boom or bust scenario. Everything becomes either really terrible or really incredible, but *just not yet* so you need to “stay tuned” all the time (to sell more ads). That’s the trick. A short enough time horizon to get your attention, but not enough to need action. So what happens in 6 months? Well, it won’t matter because we’ll have a new agenda, a new distraction, and a new crisis. That’s how it *all* works: a media machine makes, markets, and monetizes… mania. The media monetizes mania.
