The swimming events of the 5th Veterans Sports and Games National Championship 2026 were held in Coimbatore on 07 Oct 2026. Colonel AD Sharma, posted at DGQA, Secunderabad, competed in the 50-54 age category and clinched Gold in the 100m Breaststroke and Silver in the 50m Breaststroke. He had earlier qualified for the Asian Masters Swimming Championship in Bangalore.

The 2nd edition of the Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon (SIM-2026) was organised on 4th Oct across AF Stations/ Units and at prominent cities across the country in remembrance of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, PVC - the sole recipient of the Param Vir Chakra from the Indian Air Force. Thousands of participants across age groups, from different parts of the country, came together with immense enthusiasm and pride, celebrating the spirit of courage, fitness, unity and service that embodies the Indian Air Force. The participation of specially-abled children in SIM–2026 further reinforced the message of empowerment and inclusivity. For AFFWA, SIM-2026 was not merely a marathon - it was an opportunity to translate the values of service, responsibility and collective action into a meaningful sustainability initiative. As part of the AFFWA Circular Textile Solution initiative, textile collected from the Air Force families was given a purposeful second life. The collected textile was transformed into customised recycled T-shirts for SIM-2026 and provided to participants across AF Units. Through this initiative, AFFWA reinforced its commitment of empowering the Air Force families while championing sustainable practices, complementing the IAF’s ethos of service, innovation, responsibility and nation building. In a significant milestone for India's airborne capabilities, DRDO has successfully carried out the maiden live jump of the indigenous Advanced High-Altitude Parachute (AHAP) at Nyoma in Ladakh, one of the world's highest military drop zones. The jump was executed at 16,000 feet AMSL, validating the parachute's performance in extreme high-altitude conditions. Developed by ADRDE, Agra, AHAP is designed for the mass deployment of paratroopers and can operate at altitudes of up to 18,000 feet, offering safer descent rates and enhanced operational flexibility. IAF Chief AP Singh Raises Alarm Over Falling Fighter Squadron Strength. 🇮🇳 The IAF has fallen to 29 fighter squadrons against an authorised 42, and Singh says the force needs to induct 36-40 fighter aircraft every year just to stop the decline and begin rebuilding its strength. He also said delays in Tejas Mk-1A deliveries are hurting the IAF, while the proposed 114-aircraft MRFA deal is still being negotiated. Singh said the government hopes to finalise the MRFA deal within this financial year, while warning that AMCA delays could force the IAF to consider another fifth-generation fighter, with Russia having offered the Su-57. The concern is also about Pakistan's cooperation with China on a fifth-generation fighter, which Singh called “a cause for worry.” The numbers are already falling. The IAF now needs to accelerate induction, not just announce future programmes.
