I have done a dozen interviews lately on stories that aren't related other than the fact that there is an underlying theme: Each interviewee in his own way has cautioned that the Deep State (I call it the "Persistent Bureaucracy") is alive and thriving. That the persistent bureaucrats in federal agencies are slow-walking, delaying, fighting all of the initiatives pushed by Trump and his agency leaders. That FOI requests as well as info requests from Congress and even subpoenas are being stonewalled and obstructed just like they always are. They say there's nothing we can do about it. This, they say, is true inside the @StateDept ., the @SecWar War Dept., @HHSResponse , @CDCDirector, @FDA , you name it. I can attest to the problem at FDA: being required to file a FOI (i.e. delay for months or years) to get accessible public info. and then being told by an uninformed bureaucrat accountable to nobody in particular that there's no news value or urgency for my request to get an expedited review (which would likely only mean shortening the delay from years to months or a year, anyway, not in time for the current news story--as always). This isn't surprising but it's still disappointing.

Foreign Males Caught With Kidnapped Teen After Wrong Turn Onto Canadian Border Bridge Two men are facing kidnapping charges after they were caught at the Canadian border with an abducted child, authorities say. The disturbing bust unfolded on Saturday near Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) stopped a vehicle after the driver mistakenly turned onto the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge and then attempted to re-enter Ontario, SooLeader reports. Authorities found a 15-year-old girl inside the car who had been reported missing, along with two adult males. “An investigation revealed the two accused had picked up the youth earlier that day and would not allow them to leave the vehicle,” CBSA explained in a press release. Officers learned the men had been planning to bring the victim to a hotel before they made the wrong turn. Sahan Alam, 40, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and Hasan Al-Mamun, 29 of Sudbury, Ontario, were arrested and each charged with kidnapping. The victim was reunited with her mother. “As this matter remains before the courts and involves a youth victim, no further details about the circumstances leading up to the incident will be released," CBSA stated. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) just revealed that a similar incident unfolded last month at another international bridge connecting Michigan and Canada. On Aug. 29, an Afghan national with U.S. permanent residency was caught transporting an underage girl at the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron, Michigan. The child was rescued and the suspect was taken into custody by the Kalamazoo Police Department.

Good Morning, Please join me for a daily scripture break. Exodus 3:14: “I am that I am.” Let’s pause a moment and consider the transcendent nature of God.  Merriam-Webster dictionary defines transcendence as "extending or lying beyond the limits of ordinary experience.” This declaration, “I am that I am”  is something that we humans can’t fully comprehend. No human can ever really know what “I am that I am” encompasses let alone explain it in its entirety.  However, because this statement is beyond what I can easily understand it requires me to acknowledge the “mystery” of God.  There are attributes of God I will never grasp and it requires a healthy dose of humility to accept my limitations.  I believe this is where many people choose pride and either adopt their interpretation of a mystery of God or reject the notion they have such limitation; either way, it spells disaster. Please review these foundational scriptures that allude to the transcendent Nature of God. 1. II Chronicles 2:6 - "But who is able to build a temple for Him, since the heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain Him? Who then am I to build a temple for Him, except as a place to burn sacrifices before Him?” This a wonderful example of recognizing one’s human limitations and simultaneously acknowledging that God cannot be contained. As we examined establishing a personal intimacy with God in our prayer life in earlier posts this week, we must cogently recall the “vastness” of God as well. One doesn’t negate the other.  In fact, both point to the incomprehensibility of our God by human standards. 2. Isaiah 55:8-9 - "“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts".” At first glance, this declaration may seem demeaning but I think it is quite the contrary. God isn’t boastful but He is veritably honest. This is just the reality of our condition. 3. Acts 17:24 - "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands.” This is a not so subtle reminder we are creation and He is the Creator. 4. Jeremiah 23:24 - "Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?” declares the Lord. “Do not I fill heaven and earth?” declares the Lord.” Sometimes humans can delude themselves into thinking there is a place in existence where God can’t see us or hear us.  The Lord denies this assertion. 5. I Kings 8:27 - "But will God really dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain You. How much less this temple I have built!” 6. Acts 7:49 - "Heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool. What kind of house will you build for Me? says the Lord. Or where will My resting place be?” Again, a statement like this one should humble everyone. 7. Hebrews 1:3 - "The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.” We are preparing to enter into our eternal salvation, and with every day we are just a little closer.  Let’s pause and reorder our lives to reflect our focus on our eternal destination. If you are struggling with these verses I recommend spending some time meditating scriptures like these to reset your worldview - Who we serve, we are His humble servants, the gift of salvation, etc. I hope this helps. Good Morning, Welcome to our daily scripture break. Jeremiah 42:3: “Pray that the Lord your God will tell us where we should go and what we should do.” We will examine the importance of making correct, godly decisions. When I began to really explore my Christian journey, I still made decisions the way I always had. I prided myself on how deliberate, reasonable, and objective my thought process was.  I didn’t make emotional, rash decisions.  What I didn’t realize was “I" was still deciding my worldview, my values, my principles and all of those factors were heavily influenced by culture. It takes a concerted effort to change your thinking and weigh your opinions, thoughts, and values through the prism of God’s Word.  We all originate from different backgrounds and we all have had to emerge from a metamorphosis of Christian thinking into the members of the Body of Christ we are today. So today’s post we will begin with Jeremiah 42:3 and then examine what are the appropriate influences on Christian thinking. Jeremiah 42:3 is really quite simple - it isn’t what we think but what God thinks and instructs us to do that matters. This is the second step of Christian decision making. Let’s take a closer look. Here is a short description of the factors that influence our Christian decision making process. 1. Decide to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. This is the first step - where you confess your sins, repent, ask for forgiveness and get baptized.  Once Jesus is your Lord and Savior, everything changes.  You are no longer in charge - “you were bought with a price.” (I Corinthians 6:20) Your priorities are different now, your behavior is different, you are now a member of a new family, there are new expectations of you and how you will use your talents, resources and gifts for the Kingdom of God, especially the Body of Christ.  We should dedicate a considerable amount of time intently perusing the history of Christianity and salvation history -  begin with the Gospels and go from there. 2. Decide to live and pursue a life of holiness. Most Christians through denominational Churches or non-denominational Churches have “new convert” training or bible study or formal educational/initiation program requirements to enter into said churches. Each one of us has lived a unique path to our current station. Of course there are nuances amongst the denominations but the Christian call to “holiness” is universal.  The epistles of Paul, Book of Psalms and Book of Proverbs are an excellent starting point. 3. Decide to serve and love the Body of Christ.  Diligent pursuit of holiness with guidance by the Holy Spirit leads us to different assignments within the Body of Christ depending upon our gifts and talents. By living a faithful life of stewardship over our gifts and talents we are thereby benefitting the Body of Christ as God intended. 4. Decide to do the last thing Jesus told us before He ascended - spread the Good News.  This must become a way of life. You love the Lord and His Church so much that you catch yourself sharing how good the Lord has been to you and your family without hesitation.  People notice how you carry yourself, how you react to difficult times, the language you use. They may not say anything but they take note.  Be an example of a faithful member of the Body of Christ as the Holy Spirit leads you to opportunities to spread the Good News. 5. Decide to love what God loves - align ourselves with His Will/Intent/Word.  There are many people who identify as Christians but to practice loving what God loves is a great place to live out your life on earth and great preparation to live in our eternal home. These factors should shape every decision you make until your last breath.  I think by now you know I believe whether we are aware or not, culture has too much influence in the Body of Christ.  That’s just our human nature unless we make a concerted effort to develop different habits like II Corinthians 10:5 which says, "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”  Our culture sets itself up against God and the things of God that’s why this process I am describing must be deliberate, exact, and consistent. How do I go about reordering my thinking?  Contemplate Who God is. The reason that is so important is because God's Nature/Character is what our comprehension of our existence is based upon. Also pray God Word/promises back to Him. Imitate Him. That is where you begin and the Holy Spirit will enlighten you. Psalm 143:8 says, “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.” This should be our outlook - this is the prism through which we prioritize the issues of life. Here are some foundational scriptures you can review to assist you in renewing your mind, conscience, will, and emotions. 1. Proverbs 16:9 - “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps." 2. Philippians 4:6-7 - “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." 3. II Timothy 3:14 - “But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it,…." 4. Joshua 24:15 - “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” 5. Proverbs 4:5 - “Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them." 6. James 1:12 Many of you are doing all of this without a second thought but all I will say is I catch myself being pulled back into our cultural undertow of deadly thinking.  This process is deliberate and is what I like to call “Christian mulling”; it doesn’t make you weird but you are marked by the blood of Jesus.(I Peter 1:18-19)  You will look different to the world - that’s okay.
