🚨 Ambassador Yechiel Laiter, speaking from the hospital as his son remains in intensive care: “Out of ignorance, malice and wickedness, the President of France stood at the UN and stated that Hamas has never harmed Jews in Judea and Samaria. “We need to tell him and the other leaders: the attacks on Naftali Bennett, Shaul Mofaz and my son are intended to uproot us from the land. That is the bottom line after the barbarity. “I want to say to this generation: this is the greatest generation that has risen for the Jewish people since its beginning. Tens of thousands of young people ran into the fire on October 7 and have since served hundreds of days in reserve duty. “These are the superheroes. Everyone gets into the tank, nobody asks who voted for whom, and they fight together to defend the state. “We need a miracle. Prayers can bring about the miracle.”
🚨 BREAKING 🚨 The IDF soldier seriously wounded in today’s terrorist car-ramming attack on Highway 443 has been identified in reports as Neria Laiter, son of Israel’s Ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter. This is not the first tragedy to strike the Leiter family: Ambassador Leiter’s eldest son, Maj. Moshe Yedidya Leiter, was killed in combat in Gaza on November 10, 2023, while leading IDF forces. The terrorist rammed Neria near the Maccabim checkpoint before being shot dead by security forces. Neria was evacuated to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in serious condition.

Last week I wrote that the New York Times's Israel coverage since October 7 had cost it my trust. I have written fifteen pieces for the paper over 35 years — eleven in Opinion, four in the Sunday Magazine. I still read it, but with a jaundiced eye. That article drew a quarter-million interactions. This morning two Times shareholders sued in New York County Supreme Court for the internal records the company has refused to produce for four months. The petitioners are the State Board of Administration of Florida, which manages the state’s public pension assets, and the National Center for Public Policy Research. Most of what they want concerns Israel-Hamas coverage and whether the board oversees the paper’s own editorial standards. The suit relies in part on a Jewish former video-desk employee who, according to the complaint, flagged antisemitism and anti-Israel bias internally at least 15 times between 2019 and when she left the paper in March 2026. I treated this as a journalism standards issue. The lawsuit notes that since the Times eliminated its public editor in 2017 — and never replaced the job — there has not been an independent in-house watchdog over what ends up under a Times byline. The Israel-Gaza coverage is the worst example of what has resulted. @SulkinMaya's Free Press exclusive: thefp.com/p/exclusive-shareh…
I have written eleven opinion pieces for The New York Times across 35 years. I still read it. I write what follows with no joy: while I have watched it become increasingly partisan in its news coverage over the decades, no topic has made its loss of balance clearer to me than its handling of Israel since October 7. This week the Times published a sentence suggesting that Israeli victimhood over the 2023 Hamas terror attack was not a fact, but a "matter of perception." It only added an Editors' Note after furious backlash, much of it here on X. I have written corrections myself. A sentence like that doesn't slip past a reporter, an editor, and a copy desk by accident. The underlying problem is that it did not set off an alarm until readers outside the building made noise. And that was simply the latest example. In May, the paper's Opinion section ran a column alleging Israeli forces used dogs to rape Palestinian detainees, built on sourcing no other serious outlet had corroborated. The Times's own executive editor later said the newsroom "wouldn't have done that exact piece." Now there's data behind the pattern. A peer-reviewed Yale study of 1,559 Times articles on the war found the word "Israel" appeared more than three times as often as "Hamas," and that 1,423 of those articles mentioned neither Israeli casualties after Oct. 7 nor Hamas combatants killed in the war. "Paper of record" was never a hereditary title. It was a claim about earned trust. I am not sure anyone still believes it. My full article at Just the Facts: justthefacts.media/p/the-pap…

A mother and her three young children were trapped inside an upside-down SUV that was filling with water in a Florida canal. One of the little boys was banging on the door, screaming that his mom’s head was underwater. That’s when Casey Curtis heard the cries and ran toward the canal. He reached the submerged SUV and started pulling the children out one by one, getting all three to safety. But their mother was still inside. Casey went back to the vehicle and found her unconscious, still buckled into her seat with her head underwater. He lifted her face above the water, realized she wasn’t breathing and gave her a breath right there in the canal. She started breathing again. The mother spent several days in intensive care, but she survived. All three of her children survived too. Those kids watched a stranger pull them from a sinking SUV, then turn around and go back into the water for their mom when she couldn’t save herself. Casey Curtis is the kind of person people should know about.

I was honoured to be invited onto an esteemed @HonestReporting panel to speak to the wonderful @Erin_Molan about the terrible trickledown effect of the government’s boycott of Israeli settlements. Just 3 days after we saw a rash of antisemitic incidents that spread through every part of the Brighton Jewish community. It’s bad here but it’s never been THAT bad. I lay that all at the government’s feet.

The Free Press's @SulkinMaya breaks down how a New York Times lawsuit gives a window into how the Israel-Hamas War roiled the newsroom, including: - how headlines and photos were chosen, - how staff members who raised concerns about antisemitism and biased reporting were treated, and - dozens of instances of inaccurate reporting that went uncorrected for extended periods.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said: “I have never seen killing and destruction like Gaza in all my years as Secretary-General.” According to even the most critical reports, Guterres, 70,000 people were killed in the war in Gaza, a large proportion of them Hamas terrorists. During your years as Secretary-General: more than 600,000 people were massacred or starved to death in Ethiopia. 377,000 died in Yemen — that figure appears in reports issued by your own organization. 150,000 were killed in Sudan and 12 million were displaced. Hundreds of thousands have been buried in Ukraine. You didn’t see it? They died before your eyes. You simply looked the other way, because the Jews couldn’t be blamed.

French President Macron erroneously stated that Hamas was not active in the West Bank. Hamas has operated there for decades. More recently, Hamas operatives have continued to organize and carry out attacks there. Zaher Jabarin, a senior Hamas official, has long been associated with the organization’s West Bank portfolio. And some of Hamas’s most consequential terrorist networks and attacks have emerged from the territory. If someone can't display basic understanding of the conflict, perhaps they should not comment on it.

[Anger Warning] Let's tell the story of two men... On the left is Netanel Shakron, 36 years old. On the right is Kadri Samara, 37 years old. On Sunday, Shakron, an Israeli Jew, took some of his six children to ritually bathe in a fresh water spring near his home. On that same day, Samara, a Palestinian Muslim, took a gun and went to kill Jews. Both men went to do what they considered sacred. That should get you angry enough. But, here's the more disturbing news. Samara murdered Shakron as an act of Palestinian terrorism. His son was right next to his father Netanel when he was murdered. Samara pointed his gun at the child to murder him next, but thank God, an Israeli Jew nearby had a gun, and acting quickly shot Samara before he could murder the child. Here's some more upsetting facts. Shakron's widow, Dr. Merav Shakron, is left to raise her kids on her own. Without the generous salary of her husband, who worked in hi-tech. Samara will enjoy a Palestinian Authority paid stiped SIX TIMES as high as a PA public school teacher. This comes from the Palestinian Authority's "welfare" pay-for-slay program, which pays Palestinian terrorists a monthly stipend based on how many Jews they kill. Here's some even MORE upsetting facts. Two weeks ago the British, French, and Canadian governments announced boycotts on Jewish produced goods from the "West Bank." [SIC]. Dr. Shakron, a professor at Ariel University, is subject to those sanctions. The British, French, and Canadian governments give annual financial aid to the Palestinian Authority. They will be funding the pay-to-slay PA program that pays Kadri Samara for murdering Netanel Shakron. The widow is sanctioned, the terrorist rewarded. I'm so sick and tired of this. Here's what else I'm sick and tired of. Forgive me for writing passionately from the heart, but I'm tired after Yom Kippur and out of patience. I'm challenged directly multiple times a day by fellow Jews about the exaggerated, and many times, baseless accusations of "widespread" settler violence. [I'm not going to rehash the actual data that shows this is a tiny problem compared to real issues, but anyone honest and willing to do an hour of research will discover how blown out of proportion the settler violence label is.] I have no tolerance for people telling me to address settler violence when they don't even take the time to post, talk about, or even mention Netanel Shakron's murder and the countless other victims of Palestinian terrorism. Three of my children have been victims of Palestinian terrorism, I lost neighbors on October 7th, my town needs security and armed guards patrolling 24/7 to protect from Palestinian terrorists. None of the Palestinian cities, towns, villages, or hamulas have guards because they don't need to protect themselves from non-existent settler violence. If you post about settler violence but haven't posted about Netanel Shakron, I have lost respect for you. There are no excuses for only addressing one side.

I have the honor of being invited to David Milstein's wedding. Let me say this. Giving cash gifts is standard, universal practice at Israeli weddings; a registry is not, and is actually viewed as bit pretentious by many. That David Milstein's wedding would include cash gifts is not a story, its standard. And there is no reason a US Embassy employee should be disbarred from such gifts. @politico's suggestion to the contrary is incoherent: typically registry gifts can be returned for cash or credit - so no wedding gifts for State Dept. employees? I should add that I've worked with David Milstein when he was in the senate, prior Trump Administration, and current one. He is a public servant of the highest integrity. @politico probably has a grudge against him because he doesn't leak.
Just when you didn’t think some DC muckraking “journalist” could fill a column with more manure than the elephant barn at the zoo, along comes “Politicrap” (Politico) with an attempted hit job on an Embassy Jerusalem staffer.  It’s a “swing and a miss” that reminds us all why we hold the media in complete contempt as they display a new low in TDS and justifies @realDonaldTrump for giving the more reckless dishonest “news” outlets the bums rush. In this case the swings resemble a small child wildly flailing at a mosquito while screaming like he’s going to be devoured by a dragon. The “target” of this 5 Alarm Fire is David Milstein, Senior Advisor at the Embassy.  He is a brilliant policy wonk who was assigned to Embassy Jerusalem having served in President Trump’s first term in a similar role and with great distinction.  (I didn’t know him then, and only after he was named to return in a Senior role in this administration.) The “bombshell” report is more like a wet cap gun—somehow speculating that a wedding invitation sent about David’s upcoming wedding is a “NATIONAL SECURITY THREAT!”  Makes the “RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA” hoax look real.  What a load!  Those of us who actually know David and appreciate him wanted to know how best to celebrate his upcoming wedding.  We are genuinely excited for him and thrilled that he found enough time away from his obsession with work that he met a beautiful young lady, proposed, was told yes, and has a date set for the occasion. If there is a “scandal!” blame me and his actual friends for wanting some direction on how to honor him (okay, mostly to honor his soon to be bride) with something better than 13 can openers or a blender that they will never use.  I thought it was a great idea for him to “help us help them.”  My God—who but the keyboard coward who penned this drivel to think it’s a “security risk.” Of course there is a roundup of the usual “anonymous” sources who aren’t named because they either don’t exist or don’t have the courage or courtesy to make the scurrilous allegations so they can be held accountable.  The anonymous writer of this fiction and his, hers or its sources are bottom feeders trying to smear an exceptionally decent young man. If there is anyone I’ve worked with presently or over the past 50 years of my adult life which I’ve had absolute confidence in as one with impeccable integrity, it’s David Milstein.  He has NEVER—NEVER—brought up who his stepfather is or that his mother is a respected attorney in her own right.  He has made his own way on sheer hard work and a deep knowledge of Middle East policy issues that no one I’m acquainted with can match.  Yes, he is intense and I sometimes I have to remind him to give me ONE PAGE and not 30 pages and encourage him not to send long cables to the entire State Department because they do have to consider 195 nations and not just the one we’re posted in.  But no one would ever mistake his intensity for a lack of integrity! He is as trustworthy as anyone I’ve ever worked with.  Too bad people who can get a job at “Politi-Smear” would never be able to get a real security clearance as David has.  He earned his by having passed a very strenuous process of background checks.  The writer of this hit piece seems to have only one real qualification for the job, and he probably has had it since he was 5 years old.  He likes to play in the mud! Whoever the so-called “member of the intel community” is (if in fact they actually exist) should be the REAL concern of the State Department.  Leaking out of an intel agency is MORE than a lack of ethical behavior or just being a jerk—it’s an actual CRIME. Adding the canard that Jonathan Pollard visited the embassy is another real warm pile of bovine droppings.  David had nothing to do about the visit or that I approved it.  The purpose of it, which was at Pollard’s request, was to thank me for showing kindness and respect to his late wife during when I met her at a public event.  And contrary to reports that it was a “secret” meeting, there is NOTHING secret about a visit to a US Embassy!  There are cameras EVERYWHERE, a person checks in with an extensive security registry and there are no “secret entrances or exits.” I’m glad Milstein is on our team.  He is of great value to the President’s policy initiatives and to Embassy Jerusalem.  I’m glad he’s getting married to a most delightful young lady.  And my wife and I will be glad to do something that the writer seems to find objectionable—we will try to find some meaningful gift because we are fond of the couple, want them to stay married at least as long as we have (52 1/2 years) and hope our gift is something they need or like.  I speculate that he, she, or it who wrote this pathetic story is jealous because either he, she, or it has never found a person willing to marry them, or perhaps this person lacks any real friends who would be moved to joyfully extend a wedding gift to him, her or it. I've put my name on the ballot and expect the political sewage I've experienced for decades. It really doesn't phase me. But when decent, honorable and hard-working public servants I work with are attacked, I have a responsibility to stand with them. I'm grateful to work with a team of dedicated professionals at Embassy Jerusalem and will not let them be smeared without a fight!

This was no an organic reaction. It was highly organized. As @MattiFriedman correctly observes, Western editors have misled their readers.
Every sentient journalist here knows these are the sources of "news" in Gaza, and have been since the Hamas takeover 19 years ago. This is obviously a major story, but Western editors can't cover it honestly because they've all played ball and are thus implicated themselves.

Replying to @MaxNordau
Motaz Azaiza confirms on camera what was reported earlier this month: there is a Hamas-run group chat in Gaza. By his own account, every "journalist" in Gaza is in it. "Its manager was the media director of the Rafah crossing." You cannot treat any reporting out of Gaza as independent.
