“Social Security is fundamentally different today.”
@RepBlakeMoore says Congress needs to vote more regularly on the federal budget so it can make reforms to programs such as Social Security as demographics change and Americans live longer.
Speaking Thursday at the University of Utah’s Hinckley Institute of Politics in an event with the Sutherland Institute, Moore said Social Security is broadly supported by both parties — but lawmakers need to be able to make adjustments before the trust fund is depleted.
He says his Comprehensive Congressional Budget Act would require Congress to vote on the full federal budget each year. @SutherlandInst

I loved stopping by Brigham City Peach Days this year. Late-season frost decimated most of this year’s peach crop, but that didn’t stop the community from rallying together and moving forward. It’s one of Utah’s favorite traditions, and it was great to see so many local farmers and small businesses participating.

As co-chair of the House Depot Caucus, I was thrilled to join @SenatorLankford in hosting a breakfast with several general officers from across the Air Force’s maintenance and sustainment enterprise, including current and former leadership of the @oo_alcoffical at @HillAFBUtah. Our depots are critical to military readiness, given that they enhance the lifespans of our complex array of weapons systems, and operate during times when it is not profitable for private industry to do so. They are also engines of local economic growth and serve as fantastic community partners, especially in Northern Utah.

I was honored to join our military community @HAFB for their 9/11 memorial ceremony. It's hard to believe it has been 25 years. I remember exactly where I was, as I'm sure many of you do, too. Never Forget. No term is more apt for this day because it applies to those who lived through it and those who were born afterwards. I'm grateful for our first responders and service members who answered the call that day and every day since.

It was an honor to be with 15 of our heroic Medal of Honor recipients at the @MohMuseum as @POTUS signed into law my bill to enact a Medal of Honor Monument on the National Mall. This effort was among my first when I came to Congress, and watching this legislation cross the finish line was very special. I look forward to bringing my boys to the monument one day to reflect on the sacrifices of those who valiantly fought for our freedoms. And a special thank you to the Jerry Jones family, in particular Charlotte Jones, for their leadership at the museum and dedication to serving our military community.

I am a co-sponsor of @RepBlakeMoore's Promoting Childhood Independence and Resilience Act. Parents should not have to worry about the government showing up at their front door just for giving their kids some basic independence, like so many of us had as kids a generation ago.
This is heartbreaking. Across the country, parents are being punished for giving their kids reasonable, safe independence. Stories like Karyann's set a dangerous precedent and make it harder for children to learn and grow outdoors. A child's safety is always paramount, but we have to trust that parents know what’s best for their kids.
I recently introduced legislation to address this issue and protect families against unnecessary legal intervention. This will continue to be a bigger problem if we don't take action, and I hope my colleagues will work with me on a solution.

Virginia Mom Gets 6-Month Suspended Jail Sentence for Letting 5-Year-Old Walk to the Pond
Mom, 8 months pregnant, takes a little bike ride with her son, 5, in their gated community. Back home he asks if he can go out again, on foot, to get some more feathers from the grass near the goose pond. She says sure. He knows his way around, and she has watched him cross the quiet streets safely a hundred times.
But then, someone sees the boy unsupervised and calls security.
Pretty soon there are three cop cars at Karyann's door, and two caseworkers.
The caseworkers put her on the child abuse and neglect registry (for 7 years).
The cops charge her with "Contributing to the delinquency of a minor," and a judge finds her guilty.
