Climate change does not stop at our borders, and neither can our response. I appreciated the opportunity to meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres this week to talk about climate action, clean energy, and how Congress can help sustain American leadership abroad. The challenges we face are global, and our leadership should be too. There is simply too much at stake for America to sit back while the rest of the world decides what comes next.

Innovations in disaster mitigation can save lives, but emergency responders and communities in crisis need data they can actually use. Preventing the next wildfire and keeping Oregonians safe requires coordination and clear information at every level.

Recently, the Trump Administration announced it would loosen methane rules for oil and gas wells, rolling back protections that curb one of the most potent greenhouse gases we know of. This is a step in entirely the wrong direction, at exactly the wrong moment. 🧵 (1/4)

This week is Climate Week in NYC and my first stop was spent talking about food waste. When we reduce food loss, we cut emissions, feed more people, and build stronger food systems. I was grateful to join @FoodTank, @RepDexterOR , @Rep_Stansbury, @RepSalinas, and leaders from across policy and business to talk about practical solutions.

Our national parks belong to all of us, and so do the tax dollars we spend to protect them. And yet the Trump Administration has blocked at least $25 MILLION in funding for more than 130 projects. To be clear, this wasn’t money they were still waiting on. We are talking about money that had already been secured for work at some of the most visited parks in the country. Interior says the projects didn’t align with Administration priorities. But it hasn’t explained why the money was rejected or where it’s going instead. Our parks need maintenance, they need wildfire protection, and they need people doing the work that keeps them safe and open for your next visit. Our national parks belong to the American people. Not private developers. Not political insiders. And not the highest bidder. We’ll keep fighting like hell to keep public lands in public hands.

Access to safe, clean drinking water is a necessity, not a luxury. Yet, EPA is considering rolling back more safety standards that protect people from cancer-causing PFAS, known as ‘forever chemicals.’ It's shameful. I stood with advocates to fight this move and protect our drinking water.

It’s a lovely morning in DC and a great time for a stroll through the beautiful Lafayette Park. Oh wait, I can’t get in without a special pass or an appointment! And Trump wants to make this fence *permanent*! Worst of all, the renovations (which actually look very nice) were stolen from NPS entrance fees. A public park, renovated with public money—and off limits to the public. Ridiculous.

House Republicans are again attacking California and our successful environmental protections, this week bringing forth bills that would undermine our right as a state to limit pollution. As a former member of the California Air Resources Board, I know how bad it will be for our communities if these protections are rolled back and I will be proudly voting NO on this legislation.

Ships docked at California’s ports run diesel generators day and night. The communities around them already carry far too heavy a pollution burden, so California took commonsense steps to clean up the air.   Today, the House voted to repeal that protection. The stakes go beyond our ports. This vote threatens California’s ability to set stronger standards for every community that needs them.   I voted no and will always defend California’s authority to protect the air we breathe.

Tick season is getting worse each year, and with it, tick-borne illnesses like Lyme disease. Congress just took action to address this threat by passing the Kay Hagan Tick Reauthorization Act, legislation I co-led in the House that funds research & protects public health against tick-borne diseases.

@EPA set standards to ensure companies can’t put their bottom line ahead of our clean air. Yet once again, the Trump Administration is choosing to boost corporate profits at the expense of people's health.   The President will always put his donors above the American people.
